Dear Parents, Every year, student safety vs traffic needs, forces us to evaluate our procedures and guidelines for drop off and pick up of our students. This summer MPS safety personnel and campus administration reevaluated our protocols and are implementing the following changes. Visitor spaces may only be occupied for 20 minutes or less to pick up a sick child, check out a student early, drop off materials, etc. With the exception of 7 spaces for staff, all parking will be open to parents during the school day on the lower level. The two disabled parking spots require official handicapped tags from AZ MVD. Parents who are attending a field trip or who will be on campus most of the day must park upstairs. On the lower level, parents are to follow the traffic flow of the pickup and drop off lane through the posted fire lane. Vehicles are NEVER to be left unattended in the fire lane or the pickup/drop off lane. Students are only to be picked up/dropped off in designated areas and always from the curb. Cars can never stop, stand or park on Raftriver at any time. When you do so, it causes the buses to cross a double yellow line and creates a traffic safety issue. Mesa Police may ticket you for this. If you want to walk your child into school, you may only park in designated parking spots and walk your child to and from the building. Please observe the posted speed limit at all times. Never exceed 15 MPH in marked school zones. Mesa Police may ticket you for this. Lower parking o Students must exit/enter car from the curb at all times. o Enter the drop off/pick up line and keep moving forward until your student has been dropped off/picked up. Then safely exit the drop off/pick up lane merging into the two traffic lanes. Upper parking o Students must exit/enter car from the curb at all times or parent must park in designated areas and accompany student on foot to a safe area. o Yield to school buses at all times. o Get in line and follow the traffic flow until your student has been dropped off/picked up and then safely exit the drop off/pick up lane out the upper level gates onto Sugarloaf. You may not exit from the upper parking lot down the drive to Raftriver. We understand that this will represent a lot of changes for parents. With increased student population and our paramount concern for student safety, we thank you for your compliance and patience through this time of growth and change. It only takes a second of not paying attention while driving to change lives forever. Joyce Cook, Principal and Chris Pokorny, District Safety Officer
