Students will understand what the Sphinx is, why it was built, and the many theories about how it was built. Students will understand how the pyramids were built and why they went out of style in ancient Egypt. -What’s the state of your group’s canopic jars? (finished, still need some work?) -what’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned so far from Mummy Tech? (look at your notes!) -What do you know about the Sphinx of Giza? (who built it? Why? What does it look like? What’s its purpose? Etc.) -Which of the 3 Egyptian kingdoms built the pyramids? -What are some of the problems they ran into with the pyramids? Students will understand the difference between Old Kingdom Egyptian burial practices and New Kingdom Egyptian burial practices. -How/where did the New Kingdom pharaohs build their tombs? -What’s one positive and one negative about the new way tombs were constructed in the New Kingdom? (think back to last week!)
