JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE
Media & PR Executive
SALARY
£20,000 - £24,000 per annum, depending on
experience; full time, permanent contract.
RESPONSIBLE TO
Media & PR Manager & team leader
JOB PURPOSE
The primary purpose of this role is to plan,
co-ordinate and implement proactive and
reactive PR activity to support promotion of
the destination for business tourism and
inward investment, alongside wider PR
delivery as required.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following list is typical of the level of duties which the post holder will be
expected to perform. It is not necessarily exhaustive and other duties of a similar
type and level will be required from time to time.
Inward Investment PR
1. Plan and deliver inward investment-related PR activity in support of
targeted work to secure new investment from key sectors and
geographies – working closely with both inward investment and marketing
team colleagues.
2. Build and maintain strong media contacts within sector specific trade
media and with regional and national business correspondents.
3. Provide PR support for major new wins – including close liaison with the
inward investment team, Newcastle City Council, other key stakeholders
and the businesses concerned - in order to secure maximum, positive
profile for new investments.
4. Provide copy writing support, particularly in relation to sector propositions
and online content.
5. Develop strong working relationships with key partner organisations (and
their respective PR teams) such UKTI, NECC and the Invest Newcastle
Steering Group members.
6. Provide specific PR support for Science Central marketing, as and when
required.
7. Co-ordinate and manage media visits relating to inward investment PR.
Business tourism PR
8. Plan and deliver business tourism PR activity aimed at raising awareness
of and profiling NewcastleGateshead as a leading business tourism
destination - working closely with convention bureau and marketing
colleagues.
9. Build and maintain strong media contacts in the business tourism trade
press and on regional business desks.
10. Provide specific PR support for the Conference Ambassador Programme,
raising awareness of the NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau
programme amongst key target business and academic media.
11. Provide PR support for major bid wins – including close liaison with the
business tourism team, other key stakeholders and the venues and
suppliers concerned - in order to secure maximum, positive profile for
NewcastleGateshead as a leading conference destination.
12. Develop strong working relationships with NewcastleGateshead Initiative
partners at conference venues and hotels (and their PR representatives)
to maximise joint publicity opportunities where appropriate and to offer PR
assistance and support when necessary.
13. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with VisitEngland and
VisitBritain’s business tourism teams as well as with key trade bodies,
such as ABPCO and MIA.
14. Provide support for activity to deliver the Business, Meetings and Events
strand of the Northern Tourism Growth Fund programme – if and where
required.
15. Co-ordinate and manage all media visits relating to business tourism PR.
Joint roles and responsibilities
16. Spot joint opportunities and share sector knowledge across the business
tourism and inward investment teams to support the close alignment of
these areas of work.
17. Provide PR-related metrics - and interpretation - to both the inward
investment and business tourism teams at regular intervals to help inform
future planning and activity.
General duties
18. Play a key role in helping to monitor media platforms for relevant coverage
and help ensure the smooth running of PR, media and communications
systems within the team (such as updating the broadcast monitoring log,
reviewing daily newspapers as required, administrating daily clippings,
updating the online media centre, etc)
19. Provide support for corporate communications activity as required,
including: copywriting for enewsletters and drafting media comments and
quotes.
20. Attend relevant media and trade exhibitions and events across the UK and
overseas when required.
21. Assist in the planning and management of appropriate photocalls, press
conferences and other special events.
22. Provide PR support and expertise for NGI Solutions projects as required –
including spotting and developing new business opportunities, bid writing
and pitching for work, as and where appropriate.
23. Contribute toward the company income generation plan and help ensure
delivery and achievement of income targets for allocated areas of work.
24. Provide PR expertise and support for the marketing and communications
team and other colleagues, where appropriate.
25. Assist with the day-to-day management of the marketing and
communications budgets.
26. Contribute towards the regular NewcastleGateshead Initiative planning
cycle and board papers.
27. Provide expert advice and input to the operations of NewcastleGateshead
Initiative, along with our wider partner community, where appropriate.
28. Play an active part in the company’s ongoing development in relation to
new PR initiatives, new procedures and policies.
29. Represent the region professionally and actively raise the profile of
NewcastleGateshead at all times.
30. Assist in the recruitment and retention of NewcastleGateshead Initiative
partners.
31. Contribute to good team spirit and foster an environment of support and
cooperation with the department / organisation.
32. Deputise for members of the Marketing and Communications team and
other NewcastleGateshead Initiative staff where appropriate.
33. Undertake any other duties that may be required in order to ensure the
smooth running of the department / organisation.
