CONSULTATION PROCESS IN TERMS OF THE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL
MANAGEMENT: PROTECTED AREAS ACT, 2003 (ACT NO. 57 OF 2003):
INTENTION TO DECARE THE SNEEUWBERG PROTECTED ENVIRONMENT
I refer to the Free State Provincial Gazette Notice No. 91 (Friday 16 January 2015):
I unequivocally support the intention to declare the Sneeuwberg Protected
Environment.
I also commend Free State Department of Economic Development, Tourism and
Environmental Affairs, WWF-SA’s Enkangala Grassland Project, other Biodiversity
Stewardship partners and landowners for the commitment shown in securing this
area of high biodiversity value, picturesque natural landscape and water security.
The declaration of Sneeuwberg Protected Environment will meaningfully contribute
to the conservation of our country’s grassland biomes through Protected Area
expansion, whilst simultaneously ensuring that livelihoods from livestock farming and
tourism are maintained. This is loudly applauded.
