Job description
The job description is specific to each position and sets out the duties associated with the

Role context
The Deputy CEO Corporate provides leadership to a diverse division which includes the functions
relating to: innovation, technology and information; people and integrity; legal, governance and risk;
and finance and infrastructure.
This role provides direction across three key elements that are essential to the future of AUSTRAC:

Collaboration: the future vision for AUSTRAC rests heavily on establishing collaborative
relationships, both internally and externally to the agency. The most important relationships for this
role in delivering the agenda for AUSTRAC include; the CEO, the Deputy CEO, Operations; all
members of the AUSTRAC senior executive; counterparts in the Attorney-General’s Department
and AUSTRAC’s partner agencies; the Department of Finance; the Australian Public Service
Commission; and the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity. The role is a key
representative of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is crucial in ensuring that AUSTRAC is a
major stakeholder in the financial sector - nationally and internationally.

Innovation: this role is responsible for the oversight of significant transformation agendas that will
see the implementation of new and innovative ways of regulating and working with partners across
the financial sector and government agencies. The role will lead the development of AUSTRAC’s
Innovation capability, ensuring innovation is at the heart of AUSTRAC culture.

Capability: whilst monitoring current operations and progress for the future, this role is
responsible for ensuring that human, financial, physical and information resources are the best
available to achieve the agency’s business and strategic outcomes.
Primary outcomes and accountabilities:
The key outcomes and accountabilities for this role include:

Building and maintaining relationships with partners across the public, private and academic
sectors that are essential to creating a sustainable operating and innovation model.

Ensuring that appropriate governance processes are in place.

Providing a strong strategic contribution to the evolution of the organisation through collaboration
and building essential relationships with counterparts in the Attorney-General’s Department and
AUSTRAC’s partner agencies; the Department of Finance; the Australian Public Service
Commission; and the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity.

Overseeing AUSTRAC’s compliance with its corporate, statutory and legal information and
technology requirements.

Managing the division in operating within its budget.

Chairing and participating in the relevant AUSTRAC Governance Committees, ensuring that
progress is made against key objectives.

Strategic planning, particularly in relation to budget, workforce, learning and development,
physical and technology infrastructure and security and integrity

Knowledge, skills and experience:
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience as a leader. As a person, they will have
a reputation as a visionary leader who is capable of defining and leading change within a complex and
evolving landscape.
The occupant of this role will represent AUSTRAC and the CEO at forums both in Australia and
internationally.
Important knowledge, skills and experience

Exceptionally strong track record in delivering innovative and transformative change within a
business.

Very strong relationship-building skills across the public, private and academic sectors.

Highly experienced in strategic planning, particularly in relation to people, technology and budget.

Experience in financial management and working within a budget including innovative ways to
achieve results within a financially constrained environment.
Desirable experience and knowledge

Demonstrated experience at a senior level in the financial and/or law enforcement domains.

Awareness of relevant legislation and government policies including privacy, data sharing, risk,
security and data protection.
