Required assignments:
1.1 5 (five) Analytical Short Essays 1-3 paragraphs typed, MLA format, 12
font, double-spaced, proper heading

You must address each of the following in your analysis. This is to be in PARAGRAPH(S) FORMAT.
USING THE SMELL OUTLINE: Strategy, SMELL* Springboard
 SENDER –receiver relationship. Who are the images and language meant to attract?
Describe the speaker of the text.
 MESSAGE - what is the message? > summarize the statement made.
 EMOTIONAL Strategies - What is the desired effect?
 LOGICAL Strategies. What is the logic operating? How does it (or its absence) affect
the message?
 LANGUAGE- What does the language if the text describe? > How does is affect the
overall of the writing?
Q: HOW LONG SHOULD IT BE?
Use MLA format > Proper heading, 12 size font, and double-spaced.
The SMELL* Springboard Strategy (above) for each section should be 1-3 paragraphs in
lengths. No longer than 3 paragraphs per section are necessary. This would be
approximately one typed page per section. If you can apply all the above in one or two
paragraphs – that works!
1.2 COMPILE – vocabulary list from the novel.

spelled correctly and define using a dictionary. Choose words from the above assigned
reading that you are unfamiliar with. Typed this list of 20, number and define.
