Character Education FocusCitizenship is our April Character Trait. Through our character education program teachers host regular class meetings to discuss peer conflicts and describe character scenarios through storybook characters of how to best resolve the conflicts. Mr. Smith leads our counseling/guidance and also offers small group peer conflict and resolution as well as peer mediation groups. If you think your child will benefit, please contact him directly for more information at kevin5.smith@pgcps.org. BullyingAt no time do we condone bulling. However, many confuse bullying for name-calling. Bulling is more when the name calling, taunting or intimidation is one-sided and excessively repeated leaving the victim to feel harassed, threatened or intimidated. Please remind your children to inform a staff member (teachers, administrator, counselor) anytime he/she is feels bullied so we can begin an investigation immediately and put measures in place to alleviate the concern. Also, please discuss with your children that mutual name-calling is not appropriate either. MSA Science- (Grades 5th& 8th grades only) This is the season of testing. We wrapped up our first ever administration of PARCC and are now underway with MSA Science (online). Please reiterate best testing strategies with your children and make sure they arrive on time, eat a hefty, healthy breakfast and get a good night’s sleep so they are well prepared to do their best. Arrival/dismissalParents please be reminded that we encourage all families in cars or vans to drive onto the campus and follow the kiss and ride procedures for arrival and dismissal. We do understand that the arrival/drop off pattern may take a few minutes longer but it secures safety for all children. Children may not be left unsupervised before 8:10 am nor picked up after 3:10 pm. Earth DayWe will be celebrating Earth day on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Students will participating in planting, grounds clean up and art activities related to recycling, conservation and the Earth. If you are able please donate any of the following items to support our efforts for student activities, we’d be greatly appreciative: potting soil/top soil, plastic cups, seeds. Students may wear blue/green shirts and accessories and uniform pants. Book FairPlease support our spring book fair now through April 24th.
