FAQs – Classes and Assignments
Calendar


How do I know when there are holidays, breaks, etc?
The CBB calendar is available on the website in a printer friendly PDF
version. As well, holidays are noted on the class syllabus.
Does the teacher supply a syllabus for each course?
Yes – there is a syllabus provided for every course.
Classes

How many classes make up a year-long course?
CBB classes run for 32 weeks. Our parents have expressed a desire for a
couple of weeks at the beginning and a couple of weeks at the end of the
year to get organized, do paperwork, etc. Our semester courses run for 16
weeks.

How often do classes meet?
School year classes meet once a week at the scheduled times. Summer
workshops meet once or twice a week at the scheduled times, depending
whether it’s a workshop 8 or workshop 16.

If a class is cancelled, how will I know?
All parents are required to sign up for a one way text service, Remind.
Students who are at least 13 years old may also sign up for the service, but
are not required. This allows teachers to send messages to parents and
students without exchanging cell phone numbers. Teachers use this
service to send notifications, such as cancelled classes. Classes also show
up on the website as cancelled.

If classes are cancelled, will there be a make-up class?
Depending on the class, it may be made up or a recorded class may be
substituted, if appropriate.

If my child misses a class, how can he or she make it up?
Classes are recorded, so students may watch missed classes to make
them up. Students will also need to make up any missed assignments
within a reasonable time frame, as approved by the teacher. If you know

ahead of time that your child is going to be absent, planning with the
teacher will be helpful for both parties.

Are the courses accredited and/or approved by the state homeschool
agency?
Our AP courses are accredited by College Board, which allows us to use
the AP designation for our students and our class(es). General
accreditation comes from oversight organizations and individual courses
are not typically accredited. As we are not a school, private or otherwise,
we do not fall under oversight organizations any more than other
homeschoolers do. Since we provide educational services for families all
over the country, and even in other countries, we abide as closely as
possible by the laws of those states and countries. As well, we strive to
support our families by helping them with what information they need to
stay legal in their state or country. Every state has different homeschool
laws and most states don’t have a single homeschool agency that could
provide accreditation, even if we sought it. However, we are approved by
homeschool accountability and support groups from all over the country,
and we’re always open to sharing our teacher qualifications and our class
syllabi with interested organizations. They would simply need to contact us
by email. We have provided student information on behalf of and with the
permission of specific student’s families for accountability and evaluation
purposes.

Are class sizes limited?
We strive to keep class sizes small, with most classes being no more than
12-15 students. Teachers help determine the most comfortable class size,
so it varies from class to class, but not like much. Unlike many of our
competitors, we do not have classes of 25-30 students, although we could
with our current technology.

Are there a minimum number of students required for a class?
That is up to the teacher. Some teachers are will to teach classes as small
as 3-4 students while others require at least 8-10 students.

If you have a larger number of students enrolled, will you create another
class?
Classes by Beth LLC 2015
Most definitely…we are happy to create more small classes rather than
having fewer large classes. In the past, we have had multiple sections for
popular courses, such as Essay Styles.
Assignments

With it being an online class, what happens in between classes?
Students are expected to complete assignments between classes to
continue progressing. However, in most cases, parents are expected to
teach any aspect of the assignment.

How do I know what assignments my child needs to complete?
Every student is provided with a homework assignment sheet for each
week. Each teacher uses the same style of form.

How do students submit assignments and receive their graded
assignments?
There is a personal folder system (each student has their own) on the
virtual classroom website where students can easily upload their
assignments and download graded assignments. Homework assignment
sheets and other documents provided by the teacher may also be
uploaded to the file folder.

Is there any way to tell if an assignment has not been uploaded?
When an assignment is uploaded, it can be seen in the folder along with a
recorded date and time. We stress to students to look in their folders after
uploading to insure that their documents are there.

Do teachers grade ALL of the assignments?
Most assignments will be graded. There may be exceptions where
students complete homework, such as with math, and the teacher works
on it with them during class, so it’s not formally graded. However, students
generally average at least one graded assignment per week.

How can I view my child’s grades?
Teachers are required to record grades in an electronic gradebook called
LearnBoost which may be accessed online at any time. Parents and
students have access to their grades only.


Are progress reports provided? How often?
As well as being able to follow student grades on LearnBoost and see
graded student work as teachers return it, parents will also receive a midterm grade report (for full year courses) and a final course credit or final
non-credit form, depending on the grade level, at the end of the year. This
form provides parents with proof of the student completing the course and
the final grade, as well as teacher’s comments.

My accountability group requires that I submit a quarterly gpa. Can I get
that information?
Yes. However, if you know that you’re going to need information
throughout the year for your legal paperwork that extends beyond our
normal reporting, please provide our teachers with as much notice as
possible.
