Hazardous waste is any waste that is a risk to the health of humans or other living things. Natural fibers such as cotton, wool, linen, and silk are biodegradable. Plastics, such as polyester, nylon, and acrylic are not biodegradable. Microorganisms are unable to break down plastic because synthetic plastics do not occur in nature. Source reduction is a way by which we can produce less waste, recycle, and reuse materials. Manufacturers could reduce waste and conserve resources by making products that are more durable, so they don’t wear out and need replacing as often.
