SELINSGROVE AREA HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION Minutes of the Thursday, November 6, 2014 Meeting President Eric Rowe called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Thirteen alumni association members and SADS Superintendent Chad Cohrs attended. SAHS Principal Lorinda Krause was unable to attend. The minutes of the October 2, 2014 meeting were approved as written. Treasurer’s Report: The balance in the checking account is $1,201.00. A recent $100.00 donation to the Legacy Fund from Donald and Madge Beaver has been deposited. Three new member applications and dues checks have been received. Treasurer Dennis Wolfe and President Eric Rowe are co-signers for checks on the account at Swineford Bank. Administrative Update: Superintendent Cohrs reported that the high school is supporting a Port Trevorton family who recently experienced a house fire. They have a child who is a student at SAHS. On Friday, Nov. 7, the Seals host Shikellamy in the district semi-final football playoff game. The field hockey team will play against Crestwood in a district playoff game on Saturday, Nov. 8. Membership Update: Twelve new members have joined since our last meeting. Homecoming Activities Review: --newspaper promo: good information was provided --memorabilia show: well-organized, with a good variety of items on display; low turnout of visitors --tours: student volunteers and the assistant were very helpful; maybe a different day should be considered --table at the game: not many “takers” --Distinguished Alumni Award: presentation went well --special thanks extended to Superintendent Cohrs and Principal Krause for their support of our efforts Promotional Items: Eric has ordered 125 additional magnets and bumper stickers; he can also re-order the Seal stress relievers for distribution to the seniors in the spring. Promotional Idea: Hope Spigelmyer, who was unable to attend this meeting, had shared with Eric and Lowell at the Market Street Fair an idea to promote fund-raising, with the slogan “Grove Grads Give Back.” We will invite her to attend the next meeting so that she share more details about this concept. Question about encouraging donations: Linda Adams shared an example of a significant donation recently received by another local school district alumni association and asked how we can encourage similar donations to our Legacy Fund. This is an item for further discussion. Facebook Page: Don Ulrich will work on maintaining and updating the association’s Facebook Page. Eric will give him the password. Spring Activities: Ideas shared included a dance and a car show. “Seal Barker”: Eric plans to get the next issue out in the next few weeks.
