Responsibilities: • • • Effective teaching and leadership in teaching-learning Effective research and leadership in specialist and/or teaching-learning research and research training Implementation of knowledge and skills inside and outside the university Minimum requirements: • • • A Masters’ degree (Lecturer) or PhD (Senior Lecturer) in a relevant area related to Dietetics Sound practical experience in teaching-learning and service delivery in the area of dietetics. In case of the Lecturer at least one year, in case of the Senior Lecturer at least three years HPCSA registration as a dietician Other requirements: • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Sound practical experience to lead students in work integrated learning The ability to teach in a nutritionist and dietetics programme in one or more of the following areas: therapeutic nutrition, food service management, or public health and community nutrition A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational development and wellbeing A track record of research activity, including reviewed publications (1-2 for Lecturer, 3-4 for Senior Lecturer) Knowledge and experience of quantitative and/or qualitative research methodology and research guidance Knowledge of dietary methodology, nutrient and food intake assessments and evaluation and food composition or relevant knowledge that could assist in the research activity of the research entity. Some experience in leading research teams and/or professional projects Good liaison with relevant professional bodies and community groups and/or professional practices Demonstrated high standard of interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to act independently as well as cooperatively in a multidisciplinary environment Strong personal qualities and a collegial approach that contributes to the development and maintenance of a positive academic environment The desire to keep on learning and improving as an efficient academic A high level of professional and ethical conduct The ability to use relevant nutrition-related software programs Computer literacy in Windows and MS Office and the use of email and internet Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.
