VACANCY: JUNIOR LECTURER/LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
FULL-TIME/PART-TIME
The Faculty of Engineering of the North-West University took in the first group of BEng (Industrial) students at the beginning of
2015. Applications are awaited of an appropriate candidate to fulfil the position of lecturer/professor in Industrial Engineering
in order to help with the gradual phasing in of the undergraduate curriculum in the course of a few years, as well as the
eventual establishing of a School of Industrial Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and the normal lecturing and research
responsibilities associated with this position.
Responsibilities:

Development and presentation of undergraduate modules in Industrial Engineering

Development and presentation of industry-oriented short courses in Industrial Engineering

Research and supervision in Industrial Engineering (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor)

Establishment of a research group in Industrial Engineering (Associate Professor)
Minimum requirements:

A BEng or BSc (Eng) in Industrial Engineering in accordance with the Washington Accord, plus an appropriate master’s
degree (Lecturer), PhD (Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor), and a proven research record (Associate Professor)

Appropriate practical experience in the industry and/or academic context: Junior Lecturer – none; Lecturer – five years;
Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor – 15 years
Other competency requirements:

Knowledge of a complete typical BEng (Industrial) curriculum

Advanced knowledge of at least one aspect of the BEng (Industrial) curriculum

Ability to provide postgraduate supervision and do research (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor)

Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation

The ability to function effectively as part of a team

The ability to function in a multicultural work environment

Good organisational and communication skills

Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU
