Hear at Home
Service description
Hear at Home provides “in home” services to families with young children with diagnosed
hearing loss. Parents, who desire for their child to be a competent listening and speaking
individual, integrating fully in the hearing world, work (weekly/fortnightly) alongside an
auditory-verbal therapist.
An auditory-verbal therapist is a professional who has tertiary qualifications in deaf education,
and/or audiology and speech therapy. The auditory-verbal approach focuses on attaining
normal developmental listening and speaking milestones to ensure children with hearing loss
develop just as a child with typical hearing. The approach guides and coaches parents to
facilitate their child’s listening and spoken language potential throughout their everyday life.
Hear at Home therapists capitalise on the everyday life events of a young child’s life and
supports parents to identify listening and spoken language learning opportunities. Parents
become skilled at using many strategies and techniques in the home environment to ensure
optimal listening and spoken language outcomes for their child.
Hear at Home therapists have many years of experience, expertise and knowledge supporting
