Arrangements in Modern Languages listening for candidate with Hearing Impairments Extra Time For some hearing impaired candidates, some extra time may give them the opportunity to demonstrate their competence in the listening paper of the external exam. However it is not possible to pause the recording at suitable intervals using the standard CD. For candidates requiring extra time in listening examinations a CD which incorporates the extra time required into the pauses can be requested. A letter with a pro-forma is sent to centres in February which should be used to request such materials for examinations in modern languages. Live Presentation For hearing impaired candidates who are able to lip read, a live presentation may help them access the assessment. It is recommended that where possible this is performed by a native speaker, however this may not always be possible and non-native teachers may also perform this.
