Thanks to all Brother Knights who worked the eight parishes to accomplish this wonderful 24 percent increase in the donation to Marian Educational Outreach. Many children needing education assistance will benefit from your efforts. New Honorary Life Member On June 5, 2015, Brother Knight Robert V. Jacobs reached 70 years of age and more than met the 25 year continuous membership requirement and was granted his Honorary Life Membership card and a framed certificate at the July 6, 2015 Council 565 business meeting. Congratulations to you for promoting the programs of the Knights of Columbus by your payment of dues into the Order for 32 years. Family of the Month The family of Brother Knight James M. Gorman has been selected as the "Family of the Month" for Council 565. He made his 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th degrees in 2009. Jim and his wife, Diane, have 6 children. He is a duo member of Corpus Christi and St. Benedict churches, where he is a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, sings in both choirs and supports both parishes financially and works at their summer socials. James is also active in the Southwestern Indiana Right to Life and contributes to many worthwhile organizations.. Diane also sings in the church choir, in charge of the church kitchen and has been on the Leadership Council for nearly four decades. She is a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America and has served in leadership capacities as a volunteer for decades. She is also in charge of the Youth Soccer League. Jim is Committee Chairman of his three grandsons' Boy Scout Troop. He is Bereavement Chairman for Council 565 and is Chairman of the annual Tootsie Roll Drive at Corpus Christi Church. Members are Needed for the First Degree Team There is a need for several members of the exemplification team which creates new members of the Knights of Columbus. If you can help fill this need, contact Past Grand Knight Joe Schalasky at 812-471-3048 and he will explain the functions of the team. Fourth Degree Exemplification Will Occur on October 17, 2015 A Fourth Degree Exemplification will occur in Newburgh at St. John Church on October 17, 2015. If you would like information about the Fourth Degree Exemplification cost, date, time, place and activities, contact Tom Anslinger, Faithful Navigator of Assembly 253, at 812-9636432 or e-mail thomasanslinger@twc.com. You will be provided with the form and instructions necessary to make your 4th Degree. If you are a Third Degree Knight, take advantage of this exemplification locally; don't travel elsewhere and stay at a motel to make your 4th Degree. There will be a hospitality suite on Friday evening, October 16th, from 7 - 11 pm at the Board Room at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites, 301 Circle Front Dr. which is near the Lloyd Expressway & I-69 interchange. Smith, Jr. Past Grand Knight Plaque, Certificate, Pin and Card to Rodney Baehl Knights of Columbus Sets Record for Charity and Service in 2014 The Knights of Columbus set a new all-time record last year for charitable donations and service hours with $173,550,680 in donations and more than 7105 million hours of service. The numbers were announced at the annual Organizational Meeting of State Deputies in New Haven. The number of service hours rose more than a million hours over the previous year's total, according to the Knights of Columbus Annual Survey of Fraternal Activity for the year ending Dec. 31, 2014. Donations grew by more than $3.4 million since 2013, achieving an increase in giving for the 15th consecutive year Among its major donations in 2014, the Knights of Columbus made a gift of $1.4 million to this summer's Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles. Another unique initiative in 201was the Knights of Columbus Christian Refugee Relief Fund, which has contributed $2.6 million for humanitarian assistance in Iraq and the surrounding region.
