Miss Sagar’s Class - Spring Term January 2016 Dear Parents, Happy New Year to you all! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. Thank you for all of the thoughtful wishes, gifts and cards, they were very much appreciated. The children have settled in well after the Christmas break and we are all looking forward to an exciting term! Our topic this term is called ‘Hunted’ which will link all subject areas where possible. The children have already shown a great interest in this topic! For more information about the work we are covering this term please see the attached curriculum map. Our PE sessions for this term are on a Monday, with Gary from Team Theme, and a Tuesday afternoon. Please make sure that your child has a full indoor PE kit in school at all times and an outdoor PE kit for our Tuesday sessions. Homework will continue to be given out on a Friday and this is due the following Wednesday. Children may sometimes be given extra time to complete longer homework tasks and they will be aware of when this is. They will continue to receive maths homework which focuses on a specific concept of maths and they have two weeks to practise the skill ready for a quiz. Spellings will also be given out on a Friday and children are encouraged to learn the words for a spelling test the following Friday. Please continue to encourage your child to complete their homework independently so they can use their skills and knowledge to complete the task. Please feel free to write comments on the sheet or in their diary letting me know how they found the work. Please could you continue to encourage your child to read to you at home as often as possible, as this will really help them to build a bank of interesting vocabulary and techniques to apply to their independent writing. If possible, please could you continue to discuss with your child what they have read and ask them questions about the book, as this will help to improve their comprehension skills. Once they have finished their reading books please ensure you sign their reading record so they are able to change their books. Below is a reminder of weekly activities and attached is a timetable for this Spring term. I hope you have found the information in this letter useful. If you have any questions or queries please feel free to see me after school, as I am usually on the playground at the end of the day, or book an appointment via the school office and I will be glad to help. Thank you for all your help and continued support, I look forward to another fun and productive term in Year 4! Best wishes to you all for this New Year. Miss Sagar.
