JOB SUMMARY FORM Job Title: Researcher Grade 7 Department: Post Responsible To: (Please attach an organisational chart) Job Purpose: To provide high level research skills through personal expertise and contribution to the wider research team. Principal Accountabilities (Responsibilities): % Time Responsible for personal and collaborative research, resulting in significant contributions to journal papers (sometimes as lead author) and conference presentations in area of specified research. 40 Contributing to research proposals and writing of bids. 10 Contributing, as an experienced researcher, to determining the direction of the programme in line with reaching the research goals. This will include elements of research planning, project management and the organisation of group research meetings 10 Co-supervision of research students and provision of advice and guidance to other members of the team, both research staff and students including a mix of a desk-based and lab based research. 10 Contribute to the overall research programme using innovative research models and approaches, testing and developing them to enable work to be carried out that will result in the emergence of new understanding within the research field. 20 Representing the research group at external meetings and workshops so as to improve the reputation of the group and that of the role holder. 10 Resources Managed / Facts and Figures: To assist the Principle Investigator in the deployment and monitoring of resources and in reporting on a grant portfolio totalling approximately £xxx. Internal and External Relationships: Regular attendance at conferences to provide advice and support to research staff and post graduate students working on a this and similar research projects. To network and contribute to the maintenance of the wider research programmes profile and research area. May 2007 Page 1 of 3 Planning and Organising: Organisation of project report and deliverables To organise meetings of the wider research programme to foster new collaborations and to maintain a net work of other research scientists elsewhere in the UK and overseas. To support the PI in the establishment and organisation of the Steering Committee To assist the PI in day-to-day planning and organisational or the wider research programme. Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience (Indicate which are essential and which are desirable): Minimum Requirements for Teaching and Research Family Level 7: Technical, technology/engineering or scientific degree. Full understanding of a broad and/or complex technical or scientific field. For supervisory roles - supervisory/management experience and a qualification in management of ONC or above. Financial training to manage budgets where appropriate. In possession of or working towards a professional qualification. Additional Requirements for Job: A good honours degree Ph.D in a relevant discipline Significant research experience and skills in the research area. A developed independent research reputation, with a number of years’ postdoctoral experience. Experience of collaboration Experience in relevant research models, techniques and methods and have the ability to develop new ones within area of expertise.
