Chairman’s Report 2012 Firstly I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the new clubs/teams who have joined North East Rugby League during the 2012 season. All clubs have grown throughout the season and this is testament to the work of the Community Rugby League Coaches who have supported the clubs and encouraged the school club links, as well as the hard work and dedication of all volunteers, coaches and parents at clubs. The highlights of the 2012 season have included two fantastic Open Age Grand Finals in both the Premier and Regional Open Age Competitions with some exceptional Rugby on show. In the junior game; the u13’s Cup semi final between Gateshead Storm and Durham Demons was the most nerve racking junior game I have ever seen. At the u15’s age group Cramlington Rockets have played some great Rugby throughout the season, only losing one game and picking up two trophies; in addition the u11’s festivals have been well attended and some real up and coming talent amongst these players which will no doubt prove a great competition at u12’s in 2013. 2012 has also seen a rise in the female game in the North East, with more girls playing Rugby League in the region than ever before. A big thank you to all the clubs who have encouraged their players to attend all the performance pathway opportunities, from the preparation squad’s, scholarship squads and through to the AASE programme. After last year’s disappointment of the junior presentation night being cancelled this season both the evenings were well attended and successful, rounding off a good 2012 season. Can I give a big thank you to all the clubs, volunteers and coaches who have supported North East Rugby League during 2012, and I hope that during 2013 all clubs can work together in driving this great sport forward and Rugby League in the North East can get bigger and better.
