GLENCAIRN PRIMARY NEWSLETTER Issue 5 March 2015 Dear Parents/Carers, Red Nose Day – Friday 13th March 2015 We have been selling Red Noses at £1.00 each for Red Nose Day on Friday 13th March. This year we have decided to combine this Charity Event with another one due later in the month “Wear a Hat” day for Brain Tumour Research. We ask pupils to wear Red on Friday 13th March. This can be an additional item to their normal school uniform or come all dressed in Red and top this off with a Hat to represent the Brain Tumour Charity. Please note pupils are not allowed to wear football tops, football shorts, football hats or scarves etc. as we have to comply with the guidelines in North Ayrshire Policy Documents. All donations will be greatly received and the money from Friday’s collection will be evenly divided between Comic Relief and Chloe’s Cheemoo Cows. Travelling Books visited the school last week and the children enjoyed choosing their own books. We were able to choose £430 of books for our school library. A very worthwhile event. We also had World Book Day last week and Mrs McDade and Mrs Dunwoodie organised a Book Swap where every child had the chance to bring books into the school and swap them for another. This is one way to try to encourage Reading for Enjoyment. It went well and the children went home with books to read that they had swapped. Mrs Cassidy and Miss Ralston are also looking to make an order for uniform for next session. Any parents wishing to place an order can ask at the office for a form and these should be returned by Friday 20th March. Please note all meals from the dining hall, including sandwiches, are now priced at £1.90 for pupils. Please keep that in mind when paying money into your child’s account. It is great to see so many P 1, P 2 & P 3 children taking a free school lunch. They are entitled to this and have the option of a hot meal or sandwiches. We are still having pupils diagnosed with eye infections / conjunctivitis. These conditions are very infectious and in the interests of the health and well-being of all our children we recommend that those children who have been diagnosed with these conditions are kept at home until it has cleared up to minimise the spread and discomfort to others. Pupil Attendance We try to encourage all our pupils to be good attenders. We know that this is not always possible when your child is ill. If your child is not able to attend school, please contact the office with details. This is also relevant for medical or other appointments. Can I ask you to keep us up to date with your current telephone numbers. Many parents change their mobile numbers and forget to let the office know. If you or other contacts change numbers, please contact the office staff with details. Rag Bag – Friday 6th March We had a good collection for Rag Bag. The bags weighed in at 134 kilos. The company will inform us soon of the amount of money that this equates to. Arran Residential Visit P 7 had a fantastic time in Arran after a slow start. They went one day late due to ferry technical difficulties but they made up for this and packed in lots of activities in their time there. Staffing A huge welcome back Mrs Lindsay Oliver from her maternity leave. She has returned to P 5 and will job share with Mrs Alison. Mrs McEvoy will commence her maternity leave on 13th March. Mrs McNamara will become the teacher for P 6/5 until the summer break.
