Carpark
Congestion
The school car park is again beingcongested again by parents driving in,
parking outwith allocated spaces and leaving their vehicles unattended
while they accompany their child / children to the playground. This
causes many problems. including difficulties for delivery vehicles. The
main concern is safety. The space available in the carpark cannot
accommodate moving, turning and poorly parked cars without
compromising the safety of everyone using the Flatt Road entrance.
Parents are asked to either drop pupils off safely outside the school, or
park safely in the vicinity of the school and accompany their offspring to
the playground.
We do appreciate the difficulties caused by the road works in the vicinity
of the school at present, but it is hoped that parents will not use the
carpark irresponsibly and respect other users . Thank you.
Nursery
The Nursery Class has been hosting Drop-in sessions for parents and
friends. These have proved very successful, with children sharing their
learning enthusiastically. The children are about to start a topic on
Pirates. Everyone is keen to find some treasure.
Parents’ Nights
Parents’ Nights took place on Tuesday 1st March and Wednesday 2nd March
and were well attended. Unfortunately Mrs Mackenzie was not able to be
present and her presentations on Curriculum for Excellence in Action were
cancelled. Mrs Mackenzie will reschedule them on her return. Due to
absence, Parents’ Night for Mrs Smith’s Primary 7 will be rearranged for
later in the session.
The Book Fair was open on both nights and seemed very busy. Thanks to
all parents who purchased books. The school will use the comission
earned to enhance reading material for the school
Glowing
Pupils
All children in the school now have access to GLOW the intranet
programme which provides safe on-line access for children. The site
provides tools to enable children to communicate across the network.
Pupils in P4 to P7 will be able to answer a test questionnaire on- line. It is
hoped that surveys, tasks and challenges will be posted on the site for all
stages of the school in the near future.
Tesco
Vouchers
Tesco Supermarkets have started their “Vouchers for Schools” scheme
again. Over the past few years the school has received play/ sports
equipment, bee- bot robots and some art equipment. This is a good way to
get extra resources for the school. We would appreciate any donations of
vouchers. Thank you.
P1/2
Assembly
Mrs Lamont’s class performed their “Bear Hunt” assembly to parents,
family and friends. The children recited the story, acting it out with the
help of props and sound effects. They were word perfect and most
entertaining. They even managed to see a bear! Rumour has it that it was
really Ruby McGill in disguise, but you never know! The class also told us
lots of facts they had researched about bears and showed a slide show of
themselves with their bears in and around different locations in the
school. The assembly finished with the song “Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear”.
Well done Primary 1/2 and Mrs Lamont.
Athletics Team
Success
Our Athletics team proudly represented the school at the North Ayrshire
Finals of Sportshall Athletics at the Magnum on Tuesday 8th February. The
team of 24, 12 boys and 12 girls had qualified by winning their heat in
grand style. In the Finals they faced strong competition, with several
past winners in the line up.
Every member of the team tried their very best and the team came 2nd, each
winning a silver medal. The result was very close and the action very
competitive throughout. This was a great achievement and real team
effort. Beith the winners were the event winners and will represent
North Ayrshire in the next round. Well done to all our team members and
a big thanks to the coaches, Mr and Mrs Young and Mrs Nicolson.
Thanks must also go to parent helper Mr Ashe and Mr Randell who
accompanied the team on their visits to Irvine and to Mrs MacBean who
helped with extra coaching at lunchtimes.
Cronies
The finals for the Largs Cronies Poetry Competition takes place on Friday
4th March. Each class has learned a poem, P1- P3 a Scots poem and P4 –
P7 a Burns poem. The best performers in each class will compete against
children in their year group. Members of the Largs Cronies will judge the
finalists and present the winner with a medal. There is also a music section
where some songs and piano playing are planned. Good Luck to all the
competitors.

increase to £1.80 per day.

World Book Day
3rd
On Thursday
March the school celebrated World Book Day. Staff and
pupils were encouraged to come as a character from a book. The Pupil
Council gave out World Book stickers and nominated a favourite character
from each class. The children also received a £1 token which could be
used as part payment for a book or used to purchase one of the special
World Book Day titles from participating booksellers. Mrs Donaldson
Primary 4 class will visit the local library to meet Keith Brampton the
author. Primary 4 pupils in Mrs Thomson’s class will go the following week.
Eco
Matters
Work in the school grounds will be resuming soon as the weather
improves. One of the first jobs to be tackled will be planting potatoes. The
grounds are starting to look quite spring-like as the bulbs start to flower.
Our recycling efforts continue and our energy monitors make sure no
unnecessary lights are left on.
