1. Course Description: This is the first course in the Social Studies Program. This course is designed to provide students
with the skills and knowledge to understand the major concepts, characters, events and people of world history from the Stone
Age through the modern contemporary world. The course will include an overview of Geography, including the world in
spatial terms. For more information please refer to my web page for scope and sequence of the course curriculum._______
2. Materials Required: It is the responsibility of the student to come to class prepared with one 70 page WH Notebook and
two sharp pencils (we do not work in pen/ink). Participation points will be used to assist the student in recognizing the
importance of these requirements for success. All other materials will be provided as needed in class. We (staff, faculty,
administration, parents/guardians, and students) are all working together for maximum student success!_______

A-100 – 90%
Classroom Assignments; including Close Reading, Cornel Notes, VRG, Writing Activities, 55%
B-89 – 80%
Assessments; including unit tests/quizzes, research projects, 45%
C-79 – 70%

4. Title I Program:…Academic tutoring and test preparation is available to all students. Additional support for passing
classes and graduating on time is the intent of these services. Support through Title I funding is available in the areas of: math,
reading and English. If interested, please contact the Principal Mr. Gayman or Assistant Principal for Instruction Dr.

5. Make-up Policy:…All students receive one day for everyday of excused absences to make up work. Students may also
arrange with the teacher for make up on a case by case basis. My goal is to to provide every student the opportunity to be
successful in class while also stressing the importance of being punctual in order to be successful in college, career and life.
All students have one week to retake any test or test/quiz scored below 70%._______
6. KKIS Hours…Monday – Friday 7:00am to 7:30am and/or 2:30pm to 3:00pm…and by appointment._____
7. Attendance:…Daily classroom attendance is directly related to your level of academic success. “Absent” is defined as
nonattendance in an assigned class or activity for more than one-half of the period. (PUHSD Governing Board Policy J-1561
JHR.) “Tardy” is defined as not being in the assigned class or activity when the tardy bell has finished ringing. (PUHSD
Governing Board Policy J-1561 JHR.) Students who find themselves tardy or absent are expected to follow the PUHSD policy
regarding absences and tardies. Parents/guardians will be notified of the student’s absences 1-3. A formal referral will be
written on absences 3-4. A conference will be scheduled for absences 5-7. More formal correspondence and/or assignment to
an “Attendance Success Group” will be accomplished with 8-10 absences. With 10+ absences a discipline referral will be
issued for assignment to In School Suspension. An attendance hearing will be requested by the 12th absence. Students may be
dropped from class and/or receive no credit at the 12th absence. Tardiness to class may result in any of the following;

Coach Goggin’s Classroom Rules for “Success!”
1. Please attend class every day. I can’t overstate how important it is that you be in class. We cover all material in
multiple methods and strategies to ensure you have an outstanding opportunity for success. Your contributions to
group work are also essential for all of us to learn together. Plus, we would miss you!_____
2. Please be on time and ready to learn every day. Being ready to learn is defined as sitting in your assigned seat with
your 70 page notebook, bell work, any other assigned work, and two sharpened pencils._____
3. Per CCHS policy you might not receive credit for the course after the 12th absence (per semester)._____
4. Per CCHS policy please remove your hat or any other head gear before entering class. Per CCHS policy please have
your student identification with your picture clearly visible at all times._____
5. Per CCHS policy you may not use Electronic Devices (Cell Phones, iPods, MP3 players, etc) in class. All electronic
devices are to be turned off and in your backpack under the World History map before class begin. Violation will result
in loss of participation points and may result in confiscation of electronic device and/or delivery to the Assistant
Principal for administrative disposition. It is important that we not have distractions to the learning process._____
6. Per CCHS policy I cannot send you to the bathroom the first and last 15 minutes of class. Please don’t ask._____
7. Per CCHS policy there is no drink, food or gum in class. Closed container with water is allowed with responsible use.
Medical referrals for diabetics or other documented medical condition(s) will be coordinated with the school nurse for
any authorized exceptions. All IEP and/or 504 accommodations/modifications will always be implemented._____
8. Please do not interrupt the teacher or other students during class. You are however always strongly encouraged to
participate by rising your hand and being recognized for your valuable contributions to the class activities. _____
9. Please stay on task the entire class period and stay in your assigned seat and/or group._____
10. Please respect all staff, faculty, fellow students, school equipment and supplies at all times. Respect is a critical
element in an academic environment conducive to learning. We all learn better TOGETHER!_____
11. Please stay seated in your desk until the period bell rings. Failure to do so may result in loss of participation points.
