Ms. Grant Arts and Humanities – Speech & Drama Email: amy.grant@boone.kyschools.us Welcome to Ockerman Middle School and Speech & Drama Class for 6th – 8th grades. I am excited to be your teacher! We have lots of work ahead of us, but I think you will enjoy this class. Please plan to make this your best year yet! One way to make it your best year is to learn and follow our classroom rules and procedures. Classroom Rules Be respectful. Respect fellow classmates, teacher, and any classroom visitors. Keep your hands, feet and negative comments to yourself. Be responsible. Come to class on time, prepared and ready to learn. Complete assignments. Be your best self. Participate, listen, give your best effort, have a positive attitude. Demonstrate honesty. Classroom Procedures Attendance: Attendance will be checked daily and every class period. Students should be working on bellringer assignment during this time. Tardy: The door will be shut at the beginning of the class. If you are not in the class at the time I shut the door, you are tardy. Tardiness trends will result in consequences. Seating Assignments: Seats will be assigned by the teacher. Seating assignments will be altered on occasion by the teacher. If you have a special request, related to your ability to see the front of the room or other needs please speak with Ms. Grant. Supplies: Please be prepared for class with the following items. Pencils, erasers, pens, highlighters, loose leaf paper and a small (1”) binder or folder with pockets and clips. Bellringer: Every day you will have a bellringer assignment that will be completed at the beginning of the class. The assignment (ex. Journal prompt, question, pre-test) will be posted on the board prior to your entry to class. As soon as you walk into class, sit in your assigned seat and begin work on your bellringer. Bellringers are part of your Classroom Participation grade. Homework/Assignments: Homework and assignments should be turned in at the beginning of class. Stackable trays with corresponding period labels are in the front of the classroom. Purses: If you bring a purse to class, please keep it underneath your desk/chair at all times. Please get the materials required for the class out upon your arrival in class. All other materials and other class books should remain under your desk. Keep all aisles free from items. Technology: Please adhere to the Ockerman Middle School BYOT policy. You will receive specific direction when it is acceptable to use during class time. Obtaining Make-up Work: It is your responsibility to obtain missed assignments and to submit them on time. You will have the same number of days you are absent to submit make up work. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain the homework and submit in a timely fashion. Class change: The clock does not dismiss class, the teacher does. Stay in your seat until you are dismissed from class. Restroom Break: You should plan to use the restroom in between class periods. Restroom breaks are not provided during class time. Emergencies are the only exception. You will need to obtain permission to exit the class and will sign a log indicating time out and destination. End of Class: You will be directed as to when you may pack up. You are to clean up around your desk and discard any scraps of paper or other trash at this time. Substitute Teacher: Follow all standard classroom rules and procedures when there is a Substitute Teacher. Sit in your assigned seat. Treat him/her with respect. Parent/Guardian: Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding your child’s membership in my class. I am available by calling the school office phone during my planning period (11:50 AM – 1:05 PM) or by email. Email is the quickest way to reach me as I am unable to take calls during class.
