Share practice: Lloyd LaRoque, Jenni Petersen
Lloyd LaRoque – He uses a doll to call names and insults to, this shows the students
what students/teacher can do without intending to and how this makes them feel –uses cold
calling to get the students talking about the subject, what do or don’t they know about,
teasing/joking is also used in his class. This benefits the students in getting them to think
quickly on their feet. He is also working with MPS program with 5th grade to Pick a College
– MPS pays for a bus so that the 5th graders can come to campus – Chartwells provides the
food for their lunch and his students are the 5th graders mentors on campus – the library has
small gift for each of the students. The students do a 3 minute video where they have to say
something good.
Jenni Petersen – I assigned a teacher interview writing assignment earlier in the semester,
but many of the students thought that the criteria was unclear. In order to prevent this from
happening again, I presented another writing assignment to the group to see if they could
provide me with feedback and suggestions to make sure that the next assignment was more
clear.
New Business:
 Department website—comments? Stanley would like new pictures – must be high
quality – check the website to see if there are any changes you would like made to web
site.
 Winterim Academic Program Idea General Session—department participation? Anne
Durst and Pam Clinkenbeard will participate – Let Anne know if you would like to
participate as well.
Old Business
 Curricular redesign—department priorities
o Anne talked to Ellie Dickmann and Robin Fox with regards to the Curricular
Redesign with these results – Ellie – there is a lack of communication and
since the focus is mainly on the ECMC license at this time Robin Fox was the
logical choice to spearhead this at this time. Robing is trying to make sure
there are more EDFOUND courses in the redesign. Also more understanding
working with ELL’s, classroom management, fieldwork/course work and with
the special education needs. What are the problems – evidence to request
change

Alumni survey—department feedback
o Scott is going to the program coordinators/chairs to find – Would like the best
practices for the teacher licensure programs – Suggestions would be great on
how to gather the information – make questions from priority lists – focus
groups – as students leave – every couple of years – Teachers who teach outside
of Wisconsin or not in the public schools are not tracked.
Next meeting: 12/7/11 in UC 260 (last meeting of semester)
