Some people have booked this groupon: https://www.groupon.com/deals/lasvegas-club-crawl-5
There are groups going on Saturday and Thursday so just ask around and see who's
going when! It's a great deal, only $39 bucks! (I think the majority of Pitt students
are going on Thursday)
Sunday February 2nd (The Super Bowl): Some of the 2nd years are attending an
event at Barefoot Bob's. It's an all-you-can-eat/all-you-can-drink event for only $80
bucks! I have one extra ticket so please let me know if you're interested.
ATI Party! ATI is a company that owns PT clinics in a few states on the East
Coast/Mid-west. They will have a booth in the exhibit hall. They have a party every
year that is an AWESOME time on Tuesday night starting at 7:00 at V Bar at the
Venetian. They only have a select number of tickets so I would make that one of your
first stops in the exhibit hall, which opens at 9:30am on Tuesday. With that being
said, do not just walk up to the booth and ask to sign up. Please show some interest
in their company. They are awesome people that love Pitt students, but don't seem
greedy :) Let's keep our reputation up with them for potential future jobs!
Orthopedic Section Awards Ceremony:
Date: Wednesday, February 5th
Time: 7:30 – 9:00
Location: Venetian F
This event is a great place to network with the best of the best ortho clinicians.
There is no need to pre-register. Also, they usually have pretty good snacks!
#DPTStudent Social Event:
Date: Tuesday, February 4th
Time: 5:45
Location: Venetian Bourbon Room
Let's finally meet in person and put a face to that twitter handle! If you have ever
participated in a chat, please meet us for a drink! We will meet at the Bourbon Room
inside of the Venetian after the Student Assembly bylaw voting occurs!
Extra Information:
Dress code: Dress for the conference is typically what you would wear to clinic. You
do not need to wear a suit (unless you want to!). Khakis and a polo or a nice blouse
with dress pants is definitely acceptable. Also, please feel free to wear your Pitt
polos for conference events, however please make sure that you change out of any
Pitt gear prior to going out on the town (not that we think you will do anything
embarrassing, but better to be safe than sorry!). Just a heads up for climate,
temperatures usually stay around mid to upper-60's during the day, but will drop to
low 40's at night so bring a jacket!
Professionalism notes: Remember when you are out, you are representing Pitt and
yourself! Please refrain from putting yourself in situations that you may regret. We
all know that this is going to be a great, educational week including lots of fun, but
don't overdo it :) Try to plan your schedule ahead of time because once you arrive in
Vegas, the time is going to fly by and you don't want to miss out on any important
events. I would recommend bringing a backpack/briefcase/satchel or whatever you
carry to the conference with your schedule, resumes, business cards, snacks, and
any electronic devices that you may need. The Venetian/Convention Center is HUGE
and you don't want to have to go back to your hotel room if you forget anything.
Walking between two different courses may take 15-20 minutes due to the size of
the conference so plan accordingly with comfortable shoes. Remember to put your
game face on when you are walking around between courses, you never know who
you will meet! This is a great place to network with the top clinicians in PT and look
for future jobs so be ready :)
Get involved/Volunteer: The Log 'N Blog is launching again February 1st and is
looking for help to sign up members at their Exhibit Hall booth during UNOPPOSED
HOURS (1:00-3:00pm on Tuesday and Wednesday).
Pitt students INVENTED AND LED this effort last year to raise over $37,000. It'd be
great if a few of us helped launch it again this year. If you're interested, please e-mail
both Matt (matt.debole@gmail.com) and Erica Sadiq (ericasadiq@apta.org) to
volunteer.
**Check the CSM 2014 app for more information on where courses/special events
are located. The app is free and it is a great way to make your schedule of courses
prior to getting to Vegas! Also, just a disclaimer, you DO NOT need to attend the
sessions that you signed up for when you registered for CSM. You are in no way
required to attend. Your name is not associated with what you registered for. It was
just used as a way to see the initial interest in the courses so that APTA staff can
place the most popular courses in the largest rooms. With that being said, when you
are developing your schedule, know that there is no way to 'register' for a course. All
programming is first come, first serve. The sports and ortho courses usually fill up
quickly so if there is one that you really want to attend, then I recommend getting
there early to make sure that you get a seat! If you have questions about this, let me
know!
Social Media: Any time you are attending an event, use the #PittPTCSM to let us
know where you are and to remind fellow students, faculty, alumni of important
events that are taking place! Make sure you are following @PittPT , @APTAtweets,
@ATPASA to make sure that you are keeping up with what’s going on!
