JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Retail Manager Department: Bath Cats & Dogs Home Trading Ltd Reports to: Retail Operations Manager Responsible for: Grade/Role: Retail Assistant (s) & volunteers Bath Cats and Dogs Home is committed to the welfare of companion animals; to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home pets who are unwanted and far too often neglected or mistreated and to promote responsible pet ownership through education. All staff are committed to deliver first class customer care to all visitors and supporters (throughout daily activities) in order for the Home to successfully continue to re-home animals and to have the long term support of the communities we operate within. 1. Purpose of the job To optimize sales and profit of the shop through effective use of all resources, ensuring targets are met whilst managing and motivating a team of volunteers and staff. To promote and benefit the Home, raising awareness and enhancing reputation. The Retail Manager role is a key position within the trading company with the direct ability to influence the overall profitability of the organization through the profitability of the shop for which they are responsible. The post holder will be expected to work closely with the Retail Operations Manager to deliver short, medium and long term strategies whilst ensuring the Home’s ethos is maintained and communicated to the wider community through the activities of the shop. . 2. Principle tasks To maximize shop sales by achieving and exceeding agreed targets through proactive stock generation, optimum and accurate pricing, promoting gift aid, stock planning/valuation, creative merchandising and displays, and optimum floor layouts. To maintain high levels of shop presentation through the use of creative merchandising and housekeeping to agreed standards. To provide excellent customer care through quality of service, courtesy and friendliness, referring any complaints in a timely manner to the Retail Operations Manager. To recruit, manage and motivate a team of volunteers who will be positive brand ambassadors for the Home and to co-ordinate and produce workable volunteer rotas to assist with the general running of the shop. To be responsible for opening and closing the shop at agreed times and ensuring opening hours are adhered to. To ensure all banking duties are completed accurately and on time. To produce regular reports as requested by the Retail Operations Manager and the Finance & Trading Director to include weekly trading reports. To take all reasonable precautions for the safety of stock and cash without putting self or staff at risk. To maintain good public relations to ensure a constant supply of quality donated goods. To sort, assess and price stock in addition to implementing a system to refresh stock on a regular basis through effective use of store room and sorting facilities. To take responsibility for the ordering, delivery, merchandising and stock-taking of bought in goods. To be responsible for monitoring and restricting pilferage of all merchandise from the moment it arrives on the premises until either sold or disposed of. To ensure that all shop administration is neatly and accurately completed as required by the Retail Operations Manager. To maintain a clean and tidy environment for customers, staff and volunteers and promote and maintain safe working practices throughout the shop.
