Post Description:
The Crew Manager is responsible through the Watch and Fire Station Manager to the Chief Fire
Officer for the supervision and activities of assigned Fire Fighters. The incumbent is to command a
fire fighting crew in response to military and civil aircraft emergencies and domestic incidents
including but not limited to, road traffic collisions, mass casualty events, chemical and hazardous
material spills and fires which may possibly involve explosives, bulk fuel and munitions. Additionally
he/she is to provide theory and practical instruction, on job training (OJT) and professional
mentorship of Local Civilian Hire personnel.
Principle Duties:
Save and protect life and property;
Fight fire, wear breathing apparatus and conduct search and rescue activity in hazardous and
potentially hostile environments;
Command and control at emergency situations and deputize for the Watch Manager
Instruct and perform OJT and mentorship for Local Civilian Hire (Afghan);
Prevent, protect and respond to fires and emergency situations;
Drive and operate all emergency major foam and structural vehicles;
Operate Fire Service equipment, including specialist rescue and cutting tools;
To ensure major foam and structural fire fighting vehicles and their associated ancillary equipment
are tested and maintained;
Comply with unit Standard Operating Procedures;
Adhere to the Chief Fire Officer’s Health and Safety Policy and assess risk
Maintain a professional standard of fitness.

Unit staff fire training
Various associated fire department duties
Un-established or specific tasks as directed by COMKAIA or the Chief Fire Officer, including
response to off base emergency situations
Essential Qualifications:
Professional/Experience:
Total of 12 Years experience as a trained and qualified airfield/airport Fire Fighter;
three years employed as a Crew Manager/Lieutenant/NCO or national equivalent and qualified to
Watch Manger;
Experience as a Fire Service instructor;
Knowledge of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation employed aircraft and associated hazards;
including ejection seats and munitions;
Trained emergency fire appliance driver/operator (appropriate driving license required)

Education/Training:
Qualified from a recognized military fire fighting academy or aviation fire training establishment;
Trained in Structural/Domestic fire fighting;
Certified to national standard as a Watch Manger/Captain/SNCO or national equivalent from a
recognized or approved civilian or military Fire Service academy;
Qualified Breathing Apparatus wearer;
Heavy Goods Vehicle/Truck license;
Professional first aid trained;
Professional junior management, leadership and supervisory qualification.
Language: English: Very Good (Business English) Note: Both oral and written work in this post and
in the ISAF Headquarters is conducted in English.
Standard Automated Data Processing (ADP) Applications: Good (User) knowledge.

Experience of Military Fire fighting structural/domestic operations

Experience in this theatre of operation (Afghanistan)
Airport and structural/domestic Fire Service Instructor
Experience in a multi-national environment
Experience of fast jets
Familiar with STANAGS - NATO Standardization Agreements
Familiar with ICAO - International Civil Aviation Organization
Familiar with National Fire Prevention Association
Education/Training:
Fire Safety/Prevention/Inspector
Medical/paramedic/EMT
Risk Assessor qualification
Health and Safety qualification (example NEBOSH National Examination Board in Occupational
Safety & IOSH- Institution of Occupational Safety and Health)
Breathing Apparatus Servicer/Instructor
Management & leadership qualification
Personal Attributes:
The incumbent must be agile, adaptable and capable to recognize and deal with and at times
command emergency situations and incidents in a high stress environment
Managerial Responsibilities:
Management and leadership responsibility for up to 20 personnel or many more in major
incident/evacuation scenario.

Fast-paced, multinational, multicultural evironment.
Living conditions in Kabul are rudimentary and lodging is arranged on a military compound.

The successful applicant is required to be proactive in fulfilling the pre-employment conditions. This
includes medical examinations and security clearance certificate. Applicant must be able to obtain or
to be issued a NATO-recognized national Secret Security Clearance certificate. An initial 12 month
contract will be offered and contract extensions may be possible. Because of the dynamic
environment, ISAF posts are under regular review and therefore post details and responsibilities,
including contract duration and contractual grade may change during the contractual period.
Benefit Package :
Monthly salary of € 4,683.00 (Tax free in the host country).
Daily Allowance of approximately € 78.90 while working in Afghanistan.
Installation allowance equal to one-month salary (50% to be reimbursed if not completing two
consecutive years of service).
