Other Important Information
I have the following expectations of all class participants:
1.
Be prepared for and attend class. Homework and reading assignments are outlined in the class
schedule, and I will explain any changes in class. Since many learning activities take place
during class time, please ensure that you complete all assigned reading before class.
2.
Respect all class participants. In order to maximize everyone’s opportunity to learn, you are
expected to respect the opinions and learning styles of everyone else in the class. Please do
not interfere with anyone else’s learning.
3.
Stay connected. I often use e-mail and Blackboard to communicate with students. Please
activate your college e-mail as soon as possible and check it at least twice a week. Before
each class, you should also check Blackboard for announcements and course materials. In the
event that the college e-mail address is producing no response, please try the alternative e-mail
address provided at the beginning of this document.
4.
During regular class time, keep all electronic devices (with the exception of laptops) turned off
and out of sight. (cell phones, i-pods, etc.). If you do use a laptop, please use it with discretion,
so as not to disturb other class participants, including the teacher.
Policy Regarding Missed Tests/In Class Assignments & Late Assignments
1.
Missed Tests/ In class Assignments
Value of 5% or less of final grade: There is no make-up opportunity unless the student makes
arrangements with the teacher ahead of time.
Value of more than 5 % of final grade: There is no make-up opportunity unless extenuating
circumstances* exist, and the student notifies the teacher ahead of time.
2.
Late Assignments
Unless the student has requested and received an extension, a penalty of 1 mark per day will
be assessed, with a MINIMUM PENALTY of one full letter grade. If the assignment is
designated as ‘required’, the student is still required to submit it to an acceptable level, even if it
is too late to receive marks.
3.
Lateness for Tests and In-class Assignments
A student who is late for class and arrives after another student has submitted a test/in-class
assignment and has left the classroom, will not be eligible to write the test or complete the
assignment.
* Extenuating circumstances may be defined as unforeseeable, unpreventable events such as
personal illness, serious illness of a close family member, motor vehicle accident, or other
emergency. Appropriate documentation will be required.
Note: Unless otherwise specified, all assignments are due at the beginning of class on the
due date.
