A Peek at Our Week!
Math:
This week we reviewed improper fractions - changing improper fractions to a mixed
number. We also introduced the students to adding and subtracting fractions. Please continue to
work with your child to ensure they are fluent in their multiplication tables to assist with their
current math topic. It is exciting to observe the children displaying confidence and enthusiasm
towards learning these new mathematical concepts.
Language Arts:
Students were introduced to the genre of realistic fiction. We began with
scaffolding the structure of narrative writing, commencing with story setting and character
profiles. Our grammar focus was on past, present and future tense.
Unit of Work:
We are continuing with our UoW ‘Weather and Climate’. Our focus is on climate
and the changes in weather around the world. Using a map, the students investigated and identified
the climatic differences around the world. Much incidental discussion was generated about global
warming and the green house effect on our planet!
MTo Student Reflection
This week, 4MTo have been learning that great
stories have problems or challenges. We have also
learned that we need different problems or
challenges for different settings. In fact we are
thinking of our own problems or challenges for our
own stories. We had fun thinking of lots of our own
ideas and then we asked our classmates which of our
ideas they liked the best. We were all surprised by
how many ideas we
KHa Class Reflection
This week we learnt about the difference between
weather and climate. There are many things to learn
about how the weather works. Weather is all about
what is happening in the atmosphere or sky. Climate
doesn’t change from hour to hour. That means
climate is the average weather in an area of the
world. We also learned that there are things that
make climates different in different places in the
world. One of those is how close you are to the
equator. Another is how close you are to a large body
of water. We really like this UoW topic!

read it to me when I was five. At school, my
favorite things to do are Mathematics, Art and
