Reading/Language/Writing
Students are finishing up skills on cause and effect
and editing/proofreading. Students will begin reading
“Bridge to Terabithia” each day as a class novel. The
remaining portion of the book not read will be
assigned over Winter Break. Students will discuss this
story upon return from winter break and will have a
study guide. An AR test will be given on Friday,
March 8th and this will count as a test grade in
reading.
Math
Monday in math we will be using all of the knowledge
and skills that we have gained surrounding mixed
numbers and improper fractions. We will be solving
real world problems with mixed numbers. Students
need to be able to regroup when necessary in
subtraction problems. They also need to be able to
write their answers in simplest terms. Tuesday &
Wednesday we will be looking at situations where it
makes sense to multiply fractions by a whole
number. Thursday & Friday will be devoted to our
Fraction Assessment. It will primarily cover mixed
numbers, improper fractions, and multiplying
fractions by whole numbers.
Science
PHYSICAL SCIENCE is finally here! Students will begin
by studying the three states of matter and
differentiating between the three. Students will also
learn the physical and chemical properties of matter
and how it can be measured.
Social Studies
This week in social studies we will be finishing our
unit on Kentucky’s economy. On Monday, February
18th, the students will receive a study guide for the
unit test on economy, education, and transportation.
Tuesday, I will be giving the take-home/open book
section of the test. It consists of one open response
and one on demand (response to text). On
Wednesday, February 20th, the students will be given
the multiple choice and fill-in sections on their unit
test. There are 20 questions on this section. Students
will be writing a feature article on consumerism.
