Farmers are advised to transplant seedlings to the main field. Before
transplanting, the uprooted seedlings should be washed and the root
portion should be dipped in 0.02% solution of Chlorpyriphos along
with 1% urea for 3 hrs as protective measure against stem borer, gall
midge and hoppers.
Replanting of dead hills or gap filling with seedlings of similar age
should be done within 7-10 days of transplanting.
Malathion 5% dust @ 20kg/ha may be used to control Gandhi bug
insects. Spraying should be avoided in rainy days.
Farmers can sow the seeds of suitable high yielding variety viz. Gauri,
Vinayak etc upto first fortnight of August. Before sowing seed should
be treated with Captan or Carbendazim @ 2g/kg of seed. However
sowing can be delayed as there is forecast of rain in coming 5 days.
One weeding should be done in already sown 20 days old crop. The
crop should also be thinned out simultaneously to maintain the
spacing within the row.
Plants showing symptoms of red rot should be rouged out and
stagnation of water in the field should be avoided excess of water
should be drained out though surface drainage.
