Course Description
This course focuses on finances! We will be using Dave Ramsey’s Foundations in Personal Finance
course. https://www.daveramsey.com/school/foundations/ “Less than half of high school seniors qualify as financially
literate and more than 7 million borrowers are in default on student loans for college. Students are
facing tremendous financial challenges without the basic knowledge needed to thrive in today's
economy. Foundations in Personal Finance: High School Edition will change the financial future of your
students and set them on a path to win with money, allowing you to change the way your students
look at money forever. They will be empowered, equipped and entertained while building confidence
in their own financial decision-making.”

Homework
Homework is assigned almost daily. There typically is a little time allowed in class for students to
work on homework, ask questions and get help. Homework is expected to be complete by beginning
of class the following day. Students are expected to attempt all problems assigned. Credit will be
given for completion. If any answer is incorrect, it is the student’s responsibility to seek the correct
answer and the learning needed! Answers will be given and Q&A will occur the following day. Late
homework is accepted with excused absences only.
Extra credit
Extra credit questions will be on in-class quizzes and tests only.
Tutoring
Yes! Please come to me to work out when and where for tutoring.
Textbook:
There is no textbook for this course.
program.
We will use printed packets directly from Dave Ramsey’s
Course Materials Needed:
Notebook to hold handouts (We will primarily use packets and handouts in this class.)
Pencils
Red (any colored) pen for grading
Suggested but not required: highlighter, calculator
Calculators
The CVHS math department recommends the TI-84. There will be a classroom set available during
class time & lunch tutoring. These will not be available for use outside of the classroom. To “check
out” one of these calculators during class time, the student’s school ID as collateral will be left in its
place.
*calculator apps on phones will NOT be allowed on quizzes and tests*
Passes to leave the room:
Passes will only be given after the lesson is over.
Passes will only be given to go to the restroom (closest one is building 3, hall 3B, best to go on your
way TO class!!), office and/or nurse.
Electronic Devices
We live in a technology world. CVHS employs a ‘BYOT’ (bring your own technology) program.
Students can utilize their own technology within the classroom to assist in the educational experience.
If there is something in this area that will benefit you / your child’s understanding of the curriculum,
use it! There is a separate sign-off waiver (available on the school website). Please note that such technology will
NOT be allowed during any quizzes, tests, final exams, or state testing. Students will still need to
familiarize themselves with the appropriate calculator for these activities. This includes not using cell
phone calculator apps on the aforementioned assessments.
Cell Phones
It is expected that cell phone usage (calls, texting, and social media) will only occur outside of class
time. I will allow music during independent work time only (not during quizzes or tests.) Cells can be
used as a calculator or appropriate apps during collaborative group work. However, these may not be
used during tests, quizzes or state testing.
I will not confiscate phones; I will not take responsibility for such an expensive item. If the issue
persists, the parent will be contacted. The need to text, check Facebook, or play games should occur
outside of instructional time.
Students will be allowed to record homework on their cell phones at the end of the period when
directed by the teacher. This is a privilege that can be taken away if students misuse it.
Consequences for using cells at inappropriate times or uses:
1. Warning
2. Student – teacher conference
3. Parent contact
4. Administration referral
Absences:
Students are responsible for work missed due to absence. Students can be pro-active and use Google
Classroom to see what was done in the classroom each day.
Donations
Boxes of tissue, hand sanitizer, whiteboard markers, pencils…Thank you!

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
As members of the Coyote family, we pride ourselves on our dedication to Community, Values, Honor
and Scholarship. Students are expected to meet specific positive behavioral standards both in and out
of the classroom. These behaviors, such as being respectful and practicing academic honesty, are
what make Campo Verde such an amazing place to learn. During this school year, students will
participate in a school-wide initiative focused on the promotion and reinforcement of the expected
standards of behavior.
Please fill out and return this page only. This will be due as an assignment grade.
