Course Description
This course focuses on taking a more in-depth look at mathematical theories. The
course aids students in developing a greater understanding of the meaning of
mathematics and to develop problem solving skills that can be applied in multiple facets
of life. My BIG goal of this course is to instill an appreciation for math! Students are
encouraged to foster a sense of community and collaboration through the use of
groups and class participation.

Homework
Homework is assigned almost daily. There typically is a little time allowed in class for
students to work on homework, ask questions and get help. Homework is expected to
be complete by beginning of class the following day. Students are expected to attempt
all problems assigned. Credit will be given for completion. If any answer is incorrect, it is
the student’s responsibility to seek the correct answer and the learning
needed! Answers will be given and Q&A will occur the following day. Late homework is
accepted with excused absences only.
Extra credit
Extra credit questions will be on in-class quizzes and tests only.
Tutoring
Lunchtime tutoring will be during 2 half of 4 & 5 hour lunch Monday - Friday.

Textbook:
While there is a textbook for this course, I will use information from this book as well as
other resources and make note and homework packets. There will be some textbooks in
the classroom students can use as resources. If they would like to take one home,
please let me know.
Resources:
The INTERNET! You can “Google” and “YouTube” ALL math questions you have and I
guarantee someone made a video to explain it. Go ahead, give it a try! (If you see a
search result from Khan Academy, it will be worth your time to watch!)
Course Materials Needed:
Notebook to hold handouts (We will primarily use packets and handouts in this class.)
Pencils
Red (any colored) pen for grading
Suggested but not required: highlighter, graphing calculator (TI-84)
Calculators
This year we will be teaching based on the Arizona College & Career Ready Standards
(AZCCRS) that will cover the use of a graphing calculator. While a graphing calculator is
not required it is highly recommended that students will have a calculator in the TI-83 or
TI-84 family. My personal recommendation for a calculator is the TI-84 Plus CE. A
graphing calculator is a great investment as this one calculator will serve the needs of
your student throughout high school and beyond. By having access to a graphing
calculator at home students will become more comfortable with its features and be able
to better support their education. When purchasing a graphing calculator please save
the TI Points and submit them to their math teacher as we can use them to help buy
classroom supplies.
*calculator apps on phones will NOT be allowed on quizzes and tests*
Passes to leave the room:
Passes will only be given after the lesson is over.
Passes will only be given to go to the restroom (closest one is building 3, hall 3B, best to
go on your way TO class!!), office and/or nurse.
Electronic Devices
We live in a technology world. CVHS employs a ‘BYOT’ (bring your own technology)
program where students can utilize their own technology within the classroom to assist
in the educational experience. If there is something in this area that will benefit you /
your child’s understanding of the curriculum, use it! There is a separate sign-off waiver
(available on the school website). Please note that such technology will NOT be allowed
during any quizzes, tests, final exams, or state testing. Students will still need to
familiarize themselves with the appropriate calculator for these activities. This includes
not using cell phone calculator apps on the aforementioned assessments.
Cell Phones
It is expected that cell phone usage (calls, texting, and social media) will occur outside of
class. I will allow music during independent work time only (not during quizzes or
tests.) Cells can be used as a calculator or appropriate apps during collaborative group
work. However, these may not be used during tests, quizzes or state testing.
I will not confiscate phones because I will not take responsibility for such an expensive
item. If the issue persists, the parent will be contacted. The need to text, check social
websites, or play games should occur outside of instructional time.
Students will be allowed to record homework on their cell phones at the end of the
period when directed by the teacher. This is a privilege that can be taken away if
students misuse it.
Consequences for using cells at inappropriate times or uses:
1. Warning
2. Student – teacher conference
3. Parent contact
4. Administration referral
Absences:
Students are responsible for work missed due to absence.
Donations
Boxes of tissue, hand sanitizer, whiteboard markers, pencils…Thank you!

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
As members of the Coyote family, we pride ourselves on our dedication to Community,
Values, Honor and Scholarship. Students are expected to meet specific positive
behavioral standards both in and out of the classroom. These behaviors, such as being
respectful and practicing academic honesty, are what make Campo Verde such an
amazing place to learn. During this school year, students will participate in a schoolwide initiative focused on the promotion and reinforcement of the expected standards
of behavior.
Please fill out and return this page only. This will be due as an assignment grade.
