POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Psychologist
Program: Polaris Center
General Purpose:
Under the direction of the Director or the Clinical Director, to provide diagnosis and family
therapy for residential students and their families and to provide psychological
assessment and testing and case management services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides treatment/therapy to individuals, families and groups.
2. Provides case management services.
3. Performs assessment and diagnosis including psychological testing.
4. Provides support to school program.
5. Coordinates with house supervisor and other staff.
6. Performs liaison between Program, families, Department of Children and Families
and other community providers.
7. Provides information to staff on clinical issues.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
MS/MA in social work or psychology and 2 years of experience working with
children/adolescents or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires
knowledge of diagnosis/assessment, child developmental psychology, psychotherapy,
group dynamics/therapy and psychological assessment including IQ,
projective/personality and the various theoretical orientations such as behavioral,
cognitive, dynamic and family/systems.
Supervision
None directly. Position has responsibility to provide feedback to house supervisor and
staff on their performance relative to therapeutic issues/interventions.
Working Conditions
Requires lifting and moving 30-40 lb. children, and carrying 10-15 lb. equipment to
different sites.
