Edgecombe County Public Schools Job Description Position: School Psychologist Qualifications: 60 hour Master's degree in school psychology from an approved school psychology training program, plus a one year internship providing psychological services; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; Must be certified as a school psychologist by the State of North Carolina; Knowledge of the learning styles and behavior of young children; Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; Strong interpersonal and communication skills; and, Demonstrated organizational skills. Reports to: Exceptional Children’s Director Job Goal: School psychologists help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. They collaborate with educators, administrators, families, and other mental health professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students and strengthen connections between home and school. Responsibilities: Identifies and assesses the learning, development and adjustment characteristics and needs of individuals and groups, as well as the environment factors that affect learning and adjustment; Uses assessment data about the student and his/her environment(s) in developing appropriate intervention programs; Provide parents, teachers, other school personnel consultation to enhance the student’s ability to learn within the educational environment and the development of community resources to meet needs; Participate in consultation and in-service with school-building teams to develop and initiate intervention strategies/programs for students; Assists in the planning, development, and evaluation of programs to meet identified learning and adjustment needs; Delivers a planned and coordinated program of psychological services; Advocates and facilitates change that effectively responds to the needs of students, families and the school system using appropriate statutes, case law, policies, procedures, research and technologies; Applies ethics and standards of professional practice in the delivery of school psychological services and observes relevant laws and policies that govern practice ; Participates in IEP conferences, annual reviews and other special meetings, as needed; Maintain complete and accurate records and to develop meaningful reports from them; Organizes time, resources, energy, and workload in order to meet responsibilities; and, Provides other such duties, which may be assigned.
