Philanthropy – Year 12 Context for learning The purpose of this unit is for students to research ways to support the community, fundraise or work within a set budget, through the contexts of global responsibilities, human rights and philanthropy organisations. Teaching and learning sequence Philanthropy – making a difference for others Student groups to undertake research about agencies, local, national and global, that have been set up to raise money, provide services or to offer opportunities for people/groups/nations that are in some way underprivileged. Each group to take a sector and develop a report for presentation to the other groups. Each group to identify a particular organisation that has a good ‘fit’ with the group’s values, to develop a concept and plan to support the chosen organisation to carryout their work. This may involve raising money, developing relationships with other organisations or personal input into the activities. Present the plan of actions to the school management and then to the identified organisation. This process will require gaining appropriate permissions from parents, the school and the identified organisation. Undertake the actions identified in the plan. Each individual student to maintain a ‘Learning Journal’. The nature of the input into the journal is to be developed by the student groups and agreed upon. Assessment ideas NCEA.
