Resolution No. 17
A Resolution encouraging Austin Peay State University and the Office of Public Safety and Campus Police to explore the possibility of adding an emergency button pole to the
commuter parking lot located on the corner of College Street and University Avenue.
WHEREAS, "SGA serves as the official liaison between the student body and the administration,"
WHEREAS, the Office of Public Safety and Campus Police holds the mission of a "safe campus,"
WHEREAS, Austin Peay State University is held to be "one of the safest campuses, or
any jurisdiction for that matter, in the state of Tennessee,"
WHEREAS, it would be in the best interest of the growing university to maintain this achieved status of "safe" by accommodating the growing need for commuter lots with the same assets as the original campus lots,
WHEREAS, this lot is across the street from campus and in the event of an emergency a student would have to cross over College Street and go behind the McCord building to access the nearest pole.
WHEREAS, this lot is separated from campus by College Street which might make it a larger target for criminals and predators,
WHEREAS, students would most likely feel safer and more content in general about the already stressed commuter parking situation if an emergency button pole was added to
this lot,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE 64TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
AUSTIN PEAY STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION THAT:
Section 1: Upon passage of this Resolution, the Student Government Association will issue a formal recommendation to the Office of Public Safety and Campus Police to explore the possibility of adding an emergency button pole to the commuter parking lot located on the corner College Street and University Avenue.
