Dear Parents
You may have noticed the rather large nest that appeared on our grass this week. It
contained two large eggs which, as we saw on our CCTV, hatched into baby dragons. We even
had a complaint about screeching noises through the night. It’s amazing the amount of work
we’ve done from this surprise visit – and in book week. What a coincidence!
World Book Day
Mrs Kay and I had a lovely morning yesterday taking our seven story writing winners to
Waterstones to choose their prize and then to a café. Their behaviour was exemplary and
they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Two young men ate choc chip muffins that were as big as
their head and the lady in the café asked us if we could teach the other customers how to
leave the place tidy. Congratulations to our winners:
Theo Callen Cox
Kayden Walne
Millie Shepherd
Charlie Jones
Libbi Thomas
Sebastien Ramdeal
India McKeon-Devaney
And a big thank you to the mum who gave the donation to the children to boost their winnings.
Book Token
All the children were given a book token; it can be used to get £1.00 off any children’s book
or to exchange for one of the special World Book Day books at no cost – there’s a good
choice. For more information visit worldbookday.com/books.
Thank you for all the book donations; the swap was very successful and lots of children went
home with a new book to read. The adults were thrilled with their swaps too.
Assembly
Next week is the turn of the Reception Class children who will be reminding us that it’s
Mother’s Day. This is one definitely not to be missed.
Comic Relief
We’re making our faces funny for money next week. £1.00 donation to be allowed into school
with a funny face next Friday.
We’re also selling Red Noses to support the charity – they’ll be available in school next week
and cost £1.00.

St Joseph’s Penny
It’s the Year 5’s turn to try out their entrepreneurial skills next week as they organise their
stalls for St Joseph’s penny. Thanks to the Year 6 parents who supported their children this
week.
Singing Workshop
Four of our Year 4 children will be joining with other children in our cluster of schools for a
singing workshop at St Stephens next Tuesday. Those involved will bring home a separate
letter.
Cross Country
There’s a Fun Run at Canon Slade next Tuesday (10th) for the Junior boys and girls – it’s open
to anyone who would like to have a try and who doesn’t mind getting muddy!
Birds of Prey
As part of our Castles and Conquests project we are having a display of Hawks and Falcons in
school next Wednesday from the Welsh Birds of Prey Centre.
Reminder: Fancy Dress needed for our Castles Celebration Day on 26th March - knights,
princesses, kings, jesters etc and homework projects need to be in school for 23rd March
(Monday).
Netball
Netball Club resumes on Monday as it’s the start of our netball season and there’ll be games
to be won (hopefully).
Congratulations
Kara, in Reception Class delighted told me she’s now an aunty. Her big sister Alice (one of our
ex pupils) has had a little girl, Lily May. Kara has nursed her and fed her. What lovely news!
Appeal
Year 1 would like any egg boxes (6’s) that you might have so they can turn them into Dragons.
Thank you.
Heart Start
We are having some free emergency life support training from Chris Doherty who is a
Community First Responder with North West Ambulance service and a Heartstart instructor
with the British Heart Foundation. This training is open to all our staff but we would like to
extend this invitation to parents as well. The training will be held at 3.30 pm on Tuesday, 17
March 2015. If you are interested and would like more information please speak to Mrs
Brooks.

Finally, as I was bringing some of our winners back from Waterstones one of them was
reading his receipt. He read each item out loud, and the address and then began laughing.
“Something’s tickled you,” I said.
“Yes,” he said, “It’s the postcode, it’s WIJ 9HD”.
I’ll let you work it out, but it fits with a Year 5 boy’s sense of humour!
Yours sincerely
