1. Veteran’s Day Program: Friday, November 11, 2011
The elementary Veteran’s Day Program went well. We served breakfast to 78 veterans and
their guest. The program grew bigger than last year. There are so many people that need to be
thanked that help make this event successful. I am so proud to work with the people I do; I am
in awe at how they see something that needs done and they jump in to do whatever needs to be
done. I am also proud of the students. They were so well behaved during this program; it is
hard to believe some of these students are only FOUR!
 Mr. Gary, Mr. Bridges and Mr. Lloyd & their custodial staff: They worked so hard getting
everything arranged and set up for the event.
 The Title 1 & 2nd grade team: Mrs. McCloskey led the Breakfast Brigade. It is amazing
to watch the gym transform into something beautiful. These ladies (with the help of
some of their husbands, too) stayed and worked late Thursday evening to and showed
up extremely early Friday morning. That is above and beyond and didn’t go unnoticed.
 The classroom teachers: They decorated the hallways and they outdid themselves!
That hallway leading to the cafeteria looked amazing!
 Michelle Brock & Sarah Hethmon: They worked so hard getting everything ready and
keeping this event organized. It couldn’t have been done without them.
Essay Contest: We have a 4th grade essay contest on WHAT FREEDOM MEANS TO ME. The 4th
grade writes these during class and then I take them and have a panel of judges from other schools
judge them. This year, they also selected an OVERALL winner and an HONORABLE MENTION
award. A HUGE THANK YOU TO COMMUNITY BANK AND TRUST --- I called to see if they would

2. Music Program Winners: Mrs. Graves has the 3rd and 4th grade design a program cover for the
upcoming music program, the Nutcracker. One they did, the covers were judged. The two overall
winners will have their pictures on the cover of the music program. They received a large
Nutcracker during the Rise & Shine Assembly. The Runner Ups received a small Nutcracker.
Other grade levels then competed for the winners of the poster contest; their art work will be on
posters that promote and advertise the programs. They received a candy cane with a small
nutcracker attached. Mrs. Graves did all this to make the event special for the students. Thank you
Mrs. Graves! Below are the awardees:

3. The NUTCRACKER: Mrs. Smith has outdone herself this year. Close to a Broadway production,
our music program looks to be out of this world! December 13 @ 6:30 we turn the high school gym

into a winter wonderland. We need to thank Mr. Lee and his staff. They give up their gym and work
around up for a day. We appreciate their willingness to be so helpful! This year’s production
promises to be dynamic --- there are over 80 speaking parts, dances and skits. I can’t wait to see
all of our actors and actresses on their big night!
4. Elementary Food Drive: Next week, December 5th – 9th, Diamond Elementary will be doing a food
drive competition with Sarcoxie Elementary. Mrs. Hethmon is organizing this event … Thank You!
On Friday, all of the food will be donated to Diamond First Baptist Church for their holiday food
ministry.
5. Newpaper update: Last month at the board meeting, Mrs. Renfro inquired about pictures and the
MidWest Times. I just wanted to update the board and let them know Mrs. Hethmon mailed all of
student of the month pictures and class pictures shortly after our board meeting. They have yet to
be published as they have had many things from other schools. She did get a chance to make
contact with the paper and was the “Person of Interest” this week. I am sure the pictures will be
worked in as they have room and Mrs. Hethmon will continue to keep sending them monthly
pictures.
6. Rise & Shine: Rise & Shine is not until Monday, December 5th …. So winners have not been
announced at the date of the board report submission. I will submit award winners at the Board
Meeting.
Attached you will also find our elementary calendar. This calendar is sent home each month with the
students as another way to inform parents of all the upcoming events.
As always, should you have any questions, concerns, or comments, do not hesitate to call or visit.
