Course Description:
This class is aimed to present the foundational knowledge that is essential for coaching any
sport. Students will learn and develop their own coaching philosophy as well as discuss the
principles of coaching, how to communicate and motivate athletes, different style of teaching
and coaching, the principles of physical training, and managing their teams in a professional
manner.
Materials needs for class:
A Notebook /or 3-ring binder to keep all notes and handouts, pen and/or pencil.
Assignment policy
Assignments are to be turned in on the day they are due in order to get full credit! I do
not accept late assignments.
You are responsible for all missed assignments when you are absent. It is not the
teacher’s responsibility!! According to WMHS policy, you have one day for every day
you are absent to make up missed work from those days.

I will do my best to post assignments on Progress Book by Monday afternoon for
each week. Please be advised that what is posted is subject to change due to the pace
of each individual class, interruptions in the school day, etc. If a change should occur,
it will be posted to the web as soon as possible.
Evaluation:
Grades will be based on participation (attendance), writing assignments, and
Unit tests. There will also be a final exam in this class.
All grades will follow the Watkins Memorial High School grading scale:
A = 93% - 100%
B- = 80% - 82%
D+ = 67% - 69%
A- = 90% - 92%
C+ = 77% - 79%
D = 63% - 66%
B+ = 87% - 89%
C = 73% - 76%
D- = 60% - 62%
B = 83% - 86%
C- = 70% - 72%
F = 59% and below

If you misbehave or are causing problems that impede learning in the class:

GRADING
1. Attendance/participation = 10 pts. per day; Unit Test = % varies; Writing
Assignments=20 points, and online classes.
2. A Final Exam will be given at the end of the semester. This exam is worth 1/5 of your
final Grade
ATTENDANCE POLICY
1. If you do miss my class, please bring in an excuse or call the office to be excused so that
you may take the quiz or test that you might miss because of being absent. If you do not
bring in an excuse or not call the office (927-3846), you will receive a “0%” for that
assignment until an excuse is brought in to office. If any questions, please refer to your
student handbook under Attendance.
2. If you are absent, please have a parent call the guidance office (927-3846) and request to
have your assignments, tests, quizzes to be sent to the guidance office to be picked up by
your parent so that you may do them and not fall behind in class.
SUBSTITUTE POLICY
I do not miss many classes, but if I do, you will be expected to behave in a manner that is
accepted in my classroom. If the substitute has any problem with you, your name will be
written down and you will receive a detention. No excuses will be accepted for your
misbehavior.
The most important aspect of studying is to organize your time. You will need to
schedule daily homework time. You will need to keep a calendar of all tests, quizzes,
homework, projects, social times, extracurricular activities, work hours, for the day.
This will help you to organize your time effectively and set your priorities.
