Spirit beds are for patient populations that
have altered mental status and an

Committee. There was not enough
representation at this meeting to move
forward. At this meeting changes to buckets
and dashboard indicators were reviewed.
Less questions about the immunization
process. Looking at tool that MDs use that
is not communicating/updating against
what the bedside nurses are charting about
immunizations in Admission History. This
is generating unnecessary orders
Safety checks are scattered throughout
assessment tabs and this proposed safety
section will be used to increase
standardization and simplify charting in
HED. Roundtable discussion during demo
of new safety tab. Worries of double
documenting voiced. Some really liked
innovation of this new tab and ease with
which all safety concerns can be addressed
in one location
Bonnie Thompson, RN, WOCN presented
content to clarify and simplify description
of rectal catheters under GI assessment.
Stool area for documentation will still be
present. Under the new rectal tube section
there will be drop down boxes available to
choose whether a rectal catheter or bowel
management system (BMS) is being use.
BMS section will be removed under GI tab.
Hyperlinks were asked to be included for
Mosby’s and decision tree to help nurse
determine plan of action to help patients

Karen will contact WOCN to see if any other
beds need to be updated or added under this tab
before Spirit bed is added. Needs expressed to
also update decision tree for therapy beds in
Braden
Committee is aware of ongoing issues. This will
continue to remain on the agenda for
discussion
Further development will continue and this will
be on agenda again in future
Changes will be made by April 4th.
