March 2011 VET 2223, Veterinary Technology Radiology Course Philosophy and Instructor Requirements Philosophy: This course is designed to prepare students for various aspects of veterinary radiology. Instructor Objectives: The instructor's teaching techniques should ensure that the students are able to: o Define radiological terms o Explain the development of radiographs o Describe radiographic images o Explain radiation control o Practice necessary safety measures o Apply appropriate restraint measures for radiographic procedures o Demonstrate proper positioning for radiographic examinations o Recognize and correct poor radiographic technique o Demonstrate a working knowledge radiographic equipment o Demonstrate how to expose x-ray film o Demonstrate how to develop an exposed x-ray film o Demonstrate proper care/maintenance of all radiographic equipment Course Teaching Requirements: The following should be followed by all instructors teaching this course (online and in the traditional setting): All chapters in the textbook need to be completed by the end of the semester Radiation control and safety measures must be completed and tested on prior to working in the radiology suite This class must include all the associated tasks from the AVMA skills list Assessment Responsibilities: Students will successfully complete the required AVMA skills Program passing rate on the Nation Board Exam will be 75% or greater Business and Agriculture Division Contact Information: Division Chair: Robert Mitchum, 501-882-8847, rlmitchum@asub.edu Lead Instructor: Jessica Kutsch, 501-882-4574, jakutsch@asub.edu Online Course Monitor: Wendell Dillard, 501-882-8914, wldillard@asub.edu
