Alumni Newsletter Department of Physiology and Biophysics University of Illinois at Chicago January, 2014 I usually try to get this out in December but right after our party I left on vacation then we were hit by a lot of snow (car cannot take it), then bitter cold (I cannot take it), then a chest cold (you can take it). Anyway recovering and back to work. I wish you all a great 2014. Holiday party Our annual holiday party was held on December 16, 2013. As usual this was a tremendously enjoyable party. It was titled "G protein signaling in autistic endophenotypes." Awards Sarah Baumgarten and Leo Serebryannyy were selected as recipients of the Chancellor’s Graduate Research Fellowship. Sarah Baumgarten was also selected as a recipient of the Provost/Deiss Award Ryan Lahey (Lewandowski’s lab) won an Honorable Mention in the “Graduate, MD-PhD, and other combined degree students” category and Irida Kastrati (Frasor’s lab) won Gold Medal Honors in the “Postdoctoral fellows and residents” category in the 2013 COM Research Forum. Leo Serebryannyy (advisor Dr. de Lanerolle) has been selected as one of the three 2014 UIC Chicago Biomedical Consortium Scholars. In addition to the honor of being named a CBC Scholar, Leo will receive a grant to be used for academically related purposes. Nathan Roberts (advisor Dr Heydemann) has been selected as a recipient of a Pre-doctoral Education for Clinical and Translational Scientists (PECTS) Fellowship from UIC’s CCTS.
