PTSA Meeting 9/14/2015 President: Sherri Williams Vice President: Chris Butler Treasurer: Fellica Herndon Secretary: Margaret Boyd Principal: Ericka Lucas Special Guest Speaker: Briony Voorhees from Note in the Pocket President Sherri Williams opened the meeting Since this was our first meeting of 2015-2016 school year there were no old meetings notes to read. Old business: Welcome Breakfast for staff/faculty was a huge success. The local Bojangles supplied us with over 100 biscuits, along with parent’s donation the event was a happy start of the year for the faculty and staff. Senior Breakfast was very well received. The senior class was allocated the 4th floor common/café space as a designated senior lounge. PTSA donated window markers, canvas boards and sharpies so the space could be decorated. Seniors, who drive to school, we also given permission to “decorate” their parking spaces. New Business: Reindeer Days is Saturday November 7th from 9am to 4pm. This is our second year for the PTSA fund raiser, last year we had over 70 vendors and over 500 shoppers. This year we have already 127 vendors and expect more shoppers. Last year we used the big gym and hallway around the gym, this year we will be using the big gym, plus the hallway all the way down to and including the 1st floor common/cafeteria area. This event will have a wide range of vendors, from the usual sellers of Pampered Chef, Tupperware and jewelry but also exclusive one of kind items, for example one vendor will be displaying their hand made benches. Vendors pay $65.00 for booth space and shoppers pay $2.00 for entry or donation of non-perishable food for our backpack for buddies program. One use of the money raised at Reindeer Days is PTSA is able to offer scholarships to graduating seniors. Last year we offered $1000.00 to our one senior graduating. Ms Lucas reported that our senior was grateful and used the money to buy supplies she needed to attend Culinary School. In order to make the Reindeer Days a success we are in need of volunteers. There are a multitude of areas where one can help. Coordinator - communicate with school clubs and coordinate with volunteers to help with set up, clean up and help during. Hospitality - someone to man the table to greet shoppers, take entrance fee, or donations and help direct shoppers to vendors. Set up – help vendors on Friday night to set up and get ready for Saturday. Clean up – assist vendors in packing up and light cleaning up. Advertising – help in getting the word out about our event, the more shoppers the more funds. Raffle table – we would like to do a basket raffle, made up from vendors donations. Early Release Lunches – PTSA has in the past offered teachers and staff lunch on days that are early release. After the students go home for the day the staff stays on campus for professional development and meetings. We are looking for a volunteer to coordinate these lunches. The coordinator will come up with lunch ideas, contact local businesses, send out sign up genius, be there for set up and clean up. In the past we have served chili, spaghetti and deli sandwiches. State Fair is coming!!! Before you buy your tickets to state fair if you go to WCPSS Etix page and purchase your tickets a portion of your ticket price will be given to our high school. For every adult ticket we get $2 and child ticket we get $1. Our school code is 546 at: http://www.etix.com/ticket/p/8459598?cobrand=ncstatefair15-wakecounty PTSA Sponsored Tailgating party – PTSA would like to sponsor a tailgating party for those students who because of transportation problems would not be able to attend home football games. Some students, after they went home, would be unable to return to the school for home games. If we were to sponsor a way for the students to stay on campus, supervised, from the time school lets out to time of kick off and offer a discounted meal, then more students would be able to attend games and enjoy school spirit. We would partner with the Booster club in offering the discounted meal. We need a volunteer to coordinate with Booster, and other school clubs for help. PDQ restaurant has offered to sell us gift cards. The $10 gift cards would cost us $4.00 and we could sell them for $7.00. We would earn $3.00 per card. This is something the PTSA is looking into. Note In The Pocket – PTSA has chosen this worthy charity to support this year. Briony Voorhees was on hand to give us a presentation as to what exactly Note in the Pocket does. They are a local charity that offers new or gently used clothing to wake county students in need of school clothes. Children will/can learn better if they are suitable dressed for school. If we could partner up with some clubs/sport teams to hold clothing drives and/or make the admission for Reindeer Days a clothing drive we could make a difference.
