Will use this group as a pilot and see if roll out Faculty wide to set up different research themed groups- this is to be launched in September ahead of the AGM. (B) RESEARCH MEETING Need to decide on a theme for next year, suggestions so far are Collaborations? Need more people to come forward and help on the sub-committee as Dan and Emily would like to step aside. Hopefully recruit some volunteers at the AGM. Need to push ahead with this so we can launch at the AGM, sub-committee meeting arranged for Thursday at 2pm C floor café. (C) AGM Agreed on the date Friday 20th September, Barber House Faculty Boardroom booked from 10.30am til 1pm. Sarah to organise Interval for 10 pizzas at 12noon. Need soft drinks and cups etc, Emily, Dave and Andrew to organise. Daniel to make a poster to advertise. Need volunteers for roles, can nominate yourself or someone else, Dan to collect nominations. All roles will need to be voted on but will need a new President, Vice-President, Secretary, Comms Team Leader, Human Metabolism and Oncology Departmental Champions. (D) PHD SOCIETY Sarah gave an update. Chatsworth House trip booked for 7th September approx. £9 students £12 adults, extra £4 for house tour, maybe some subsidy when know numbers, all welcome. Thinking of holding a bbq at some point. Currently PHD Society is Medical School only, to look at opening up Faculty wide like the RSA. (E) CHEESE AND WINE EVENT Suggested date is 11th or 18th October. Maybe look at a venue that can do catering therefore we do not need to organise alcohol however cheaper to use University building. Will see if can use Firth Court 2 but only if can use canteen to store alcohol as easier to keep an eye on stock levels during the evening. Will need to pay VAT on tickets, suggested price £6. Organise venue and tickets for AGM so can sell tickets. Is there any left-over stock from last year? Kelham Island again for beer. (F) CAREER DEVELOPMENT FUND Cher is leaving therefore from now on all expense forms to Andrew for processing so he can keep an eye on accounts. 6. AOB Roberts Fund: There is £4000 left over in the fund, Research and Innovation asked if the RSA would like this money, needs to be used towards Career Development. One suggestion is using to help set up PostDoc ICE. Any ideas for training courses please let the RSA know. Suggested a Dragon’s Den theme for pilot research studies that require funding. STATS course, Lucy organised the last one, maybe the RSA can fund the next one? Fund people to attend the Science Comms Fair or the Vitae Career Day in November? Sponsor a SURE student? Let people know about this at the AGM so they can suggest ideas. Secretary: No secretary for the September meeting, Vera volunteered. Monthly Committee Meeting: 3rd September, 2-3pm, Faculty Board Room, Barber House 3
