Calculator: You are required to bring a scientific calculator to class everyday.
Your calculator must do exponents. Cell phone calculators are not permitted.
Prerequisites: The mathematical prerequisite for the course is that you have
met the entrance requirements for the university, namely three years of high
school mathematics.

 To strengthen and build confidence in your quantitative skills.
 To demonstrate the relevance and applicability of mathematics to
your lives and careers.

Homework Guidelines
For every one hour spent in class, plan to spend two to three hours out of
class reviewing your lecture notes, reading the text, and working problems. If
you get stuck on the homework problems, seek help from your instructor or
your colleagues. Also, I strongly encourage you to form study groups.
In-class Exams
There will be 4 in class exams (best 3) see tentative schedule for dates. Each
exam is worth 100 points, or about 10 % of your overall grade. If you cannot
make an exam, you must contact me in advance to arrange another test
date. Documentation of any excuse will be requested. You must bring your
student ID card and another government issued photo ID to each exam.
Project
There will be a project assigned during midterm. It is worth 150 points, or
about 15% of your overall grade. Details will be provided.
Final Exam
There will be a comprehensive final exam worth 250 points, or about 25% of
your overall grade

Academic Integrity
Exams are to be done individually. You must neither give nor receive help on
exams. However I encourage you to work together on homework.
Cheating
Cheating of any kind may result in a course grade of F and possible expulsion
from the University. Please Do not cheat!
Incompletes
Incompletes are only given in situations in which a student has been in good
standing all semester, but is prevented from completing a course assignment
(for example the final exam) by circumstances beyond his/her control (for
example hospitalization, death of a family member). This policy of the
department and college is strictly enforced.
Disruptions
Class disruptions (cell phones, music, etc) and any other inappropriate
behavior will not be tolerated. Please see the CU-Denver Code of Student
Conduct for details.

Students with disabilities who need accommodations should make me aware
of this either by contacting me directly or by having the Disabilities Services

first week of class.
