Materials required: Graphing calculator (TI-83 or TI-84 is recommended), notebook paper, pencils and erasers, MyMathLab access code and College Algebra 3rd edition Guided Notebook by Kirk Trigsted (ISBN-10: 0321788141 | ISBN-13: 9780321788146). A student earning a D or an F in this special section of Math 1113 must enroll in a section of Math 0903 the following semester. Attendance: Attendance is required. After the 3rd absence, your name may be reported to the advising center’s Early Warning staff. A student with more than five absences is in jeopardy of being dropped from the course with a grade of “FE” for excessive absences. Homework/Quizzes: As an essential part of a course of study in mathematics, homework will be assigned and discussed daily. Most of the homework for this course will be done and graded on the computer using MyMathLab, a web-based software program. More information regarding this will be given in class. Additional written homework and quizzes must be turned in on time. No late work will be accepted, but your four lowest homework/quiz grades will be dropped at the end of the semester. Exams: All exam dates will be announced at least two class periods in advance. Make up exams will only be given in case of extreme circumstances or if prior notice is given. Under normal circumstances, no student may take more than one make up test, and make up tests need to be taken within one week of the original test date. Your instructor should be notified as soon as you realize that you will miss the exam. Make up exams are given on Friday afternoons from 2:00 – 4:30pm in Corley 101. Calculator Policy: A graphing calculator, such as the TI-83, TI-83 Plus, or TI-84 is required for this course. There may be some exams or portions of exams which must be completed without the use of a calculator. Calculators with a built in computer algebra system are prohibited. Calculator programs and applications (especially if using computer algebra systems such as ZoomMath and App4Math) are prohibited whether pre-installed, purchased, or created. The use of cell phones as calculators is prohibited. Cell Phones: Please turn your cell phone off at the beginning of class. If you are expecting an important call during class, discuss it with me before. Do not send or receive text messages during class, as this is very disruptive to the class. If you have your cell phone out during a test, you will receive a zero on the test. Cheating/plagiarism: Cheating or plagiarizing someone else’s work may result in a grade of a zero on that assignment or expulsion from the class. The misuse of calculators is viewed as cheating and will merit the same consequences. Cheating will not be tolerated. Resources for help: The Math Help Room located in Doc Bryan 247offers free tutoring to Tech students. It is staffed with math majors and math instructors. The hours will be announced as soon as they are set. If you need additional help, please come by my office during office hours or make an appointment. Expectations: 1. Please be courteous and considerate of everyone in the class. This includes having your cell phone turned off and put away during class. 2. If you must leave early, please let me know before class begins. You are expected to be on time and stay until class is dismissed. 3. Please bring the required materials to class daily. 4. Please use a pencil and show work on all assignments and tests.
