Ayushma Ghimire BioChem Seminar Intro to Careers Assignment: Pediatrician Introduction: A pediatrician is a physician who focuses on the physical, behavioral and mental health of a child from birth until age 21. A pediatrician’s job is to provide medical care for children at every stage of development. Pediatricians focus on babies, adolescents, young adults until 21 to reduce infant and child morality, control infectious diseases. Often, pediatricians are involved in making prevention, early detection and other problems that can affect children. Education Requirements: In order to be a pediatrician, there are lots of component required. They follow the same medical training rules as other doctors. Pediatricians can choose between pursuing a M.D degree or a D.O program as both offers general medical knowledge. Few majors such as Biology, chemistry or math are few tracks students in undergraduate often take to be in a pre-medical track, which allows them to learn the general science. After finishing the bachelor’s degree program, and to attain a medical degree a student must take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). It takes about four years to complete learning the variety of medical and healthcare practices. After graduating from med school, the student needs to complete a residency in hospital setting where the students will receive hands on training under the supervision of experienced doctors or pediatricians. Therefore, because of my interest in working with children and health field I realized being a pediatrician was the best option for me because it is something I really want to do. If I make it to my goal of being a pediatrician, I will be the first generation in my family to be a doctor or someone to pursue very high education which motivates me even more to find success in the process of my career.
