Northern Powergrid have a vacancy for a Protection Design / Applications Engineer, who is invited to join a vibrant team of engineers, working to deliver a broad range of Asset replacement and New Connections projects from 11kV up to 132kV. Key Responsibilities Identify customer requirements and firm up protection scheme design Create connection and Protection diagrams and front end protection design proposals up to 132kV. Produce Detailed protection design solutions including GA’s, scheme logic drawings, AC and DC schematic diagrams and Connection and Protection Drawings Check contractors drawings against protection scheme design and approve Specify protection relay types and the production of numeric relay applications / configuration files. Interface protection with Substation Control and SCADA systems Document scheme logic and relay configuration files and operational engineers in the application of them within the substations Key Competencies Ability to translate high level specifications into detailed EHV protection schemes for substation projects Ability to apply Engineering knowledge to protection schemes for EHV power systems Knowledge of safety legislation/procedures and specifically the CDM regulations Ability to produce and apply protection designs to electrical distribution systems Knowledge of engineering standards and protection systems for EHV substations Ability to produce contract technical specifications to enable procurement of protection schemes and services for construction of EHV substations. Qualifications & Attributes Essential: The successful candidate will hold HNC in electrical engineering or equivalent. Also the successful candidate should have at least three year experience working as an engineer on electrical power distribution networks and have detailed knowledge of power system protection schemes at 11kV and 33kV. Protection scheme design or applications experience on the 33kV system and a good working knowledge of industry standards is essential. Desirable Qualifications: Degree in electrical engineering Desirable Experience: Protection commissioning experience; Experience of specifying power system protection designs; Protection design or applications experience up to 132kV.
