Selinsgrove Area Elementary School Parent-Teacher-Student-Organization Minutes for April 9, 2015 The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by President Jessica Landis with 23 in attendance. 4 Officers were present: o President- Jessica Landis, Vice President- Heather Geeseman, Recording Secretary- Ami Goudreau, Corresponding Secretary- Beth Vasquez President’s Report o A vote of all present approved the March meeting minutes Secretary’s Report- Thank you notes have been sent for businesses that contributed to the Easter egg hunt. Treasurer’s Report o Balances are as follows: Checking: $45,110.06 Money Market: no new information reported CD: no new information reported o Deposits $104.00- T-shirt money o Expenses $47.79 and $87.04- Easter Family Fun $1,947.50- Giant gift cards $2,537.80- Lerko (field trip t-shirts) $348.86- Teacher reimbursements $16,867.52- Wolfgang Candy $3,343.75- Weis gift cards Committee Reports o Fundraiser Committees Gift Cards No new updates. We’re hoping to have an order form sent home shortly. Spell-A-Thon Final money is still being collected $2,548.05 has been collected so far Box Tops Nothing new to report. The next submission will be the end of October. Campbell’s Labels for Education Nothing new to report Papa John’s Fliers go home every month with the coupons to be used on Fridays at Papa John’s Signs are posted outside the school on Fridays as a reminder. Texas Roadhouse Dinner Date is May 5 Staff will be greeting at tables from 4:30-7:30 PTSO has voted to have an information table at the front of the restaurant. The donation jar will be placed on the table at that time. Beth V. has agreed to make an information board to put on the PTSO table. Book Fair April 14-23 Morning volunteers are still needed. Volunteers running the fair must have current clearances turned in to Mr. Heintzelman or be a current volunteer who has been “grandfathered” in as a volunteer for the remainder of the school year Pavers Prices have not changed. Order forms will go home shortly. One paver will be purchased for a retiring teacher. o Monthly Event Committees March Event- Egg Hunt 3/27/15 The egg hunt was extremely well-attended. We’d like to extend a huge thank-you to everyone who helped during the event and the two weeks leading up to it! April Event- Movie night Beth V. and Ami G. will organize. Lilo and Stitch was the chosen movie and décor will reflect a Hawaiian theme. May Event- Olympics organized by the National Honor Society May 3, 3:00-5:00 It was decided that PTSO will provide the snacks- Jen K. will take care of organizing those. o Yearbooks The yearbooks have been delivered to the school and are locked away until distribution. o T-shirts T-shirts have been distributed for K and 1st grades 2nd grade’s shirts will be distributed shortly. The shirts are purchased by the PTSO for students to use on field trips and for field day o Field Day- May 28 Janel Ashburn/Michele Pryor- chairs, Jen K will organize volunteers 2 inflatables have been reserved at a cost of $506 Blaise Alexander donated water bottles for the event We are looking for donations of snacks and pop-up tents/shade o Teacher Appreciation Week- May 4-8 Beth V. and Ami G. will cover teacher surprises/activities for the week A breakfast will be held for all staff on Thursday May 7 o Secretary Appreciation Day- April 22 Jessica and Jennifer will cover o Preschool Tours Tours have been underway for a few weeks. We are still in need of volunteers for some tours on April 24. Principal’s Report o Cyndi Burdett (2nd grade) has received an Excellence in Education Award from the Chamber of Commerce o Read Across America Week/Blue Ribbon Reading Incentive Students have read a little over 60,000 books, and the incentive is looking promising. Keep reading!! 2-3 books per night is suggested. o Mrs. Ulery has coordinated concerts for the 1st and 2nd graders. Concerts will be held on April 14 and 16 Your teacher should let you know which night and time to attend o May 1 will be a related arts assembly- Taiko Drums o School-wide safety drills Last month there was a severe weather drill and a lockdown 2 fire drills are all that remain for this school year o There will be two programs available to some elementary school students for this summer Seals camp Will be held for 10 2nd graders (by invitation only) Will help to work on skill deficits Summer reading program (Funded through KtO grant) Will be open to Tier 3 reading students, then Tier 2 if space allows Home visitors will go out to homes to work on reading skills over the summer months New Business o Field Trips for next year The PTSO has been asked to help cover the costs of field trips next year The projected budget is $9000.00 o New Officers Nominations for PTSO officers must be in prior to the May PTSO meeting Nominees must be a parent of 2015-2016 K-2 student New officers will be elected at the May meeting Important Dates o April 17- Family Movie Night 6:30 o April 14 and 16- 1st and 2nd grade concerts o April 14-23- Spring Book Fair o April 22- Secretary Appreciation Day o May 1- Related Arts Assembly o May 3, 3:00-5:00- Olympics o May 5- Texas Roadhouse fundraiser night o May 7- Teacher Appreciation Breakfast March meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m. Next scheduled meeting is May 7 @ 6:30 – This will be our last PTSO meeting of the year and will include election of officers for next year.
