Selinsgrove K-2 Parent Teacher Student Organization K-2@seal-pa.org K-2 PTSO Minutes: October 11, 2012 1) The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by Helene Everhart, with 15 in attendance – thank you to all who were present! A special thank you to the teachers who attended – Mrs. Musser, Mrs. Kratzer, and Mrs. Fiedler! a) The classroom with the greatest parent attendance is rewarded with a visit by the PTSO mascot and gets to display the PTSO PROUD plaque outside of their classroom. b) This month’s winning class: Mrs. Neff! 2) Introduction of 2012-2013 K-2 PTSO Officers President - Helene Everhart Vice President – Steve Varias Treasurer - Lacey Dupert Recording Secretary - Lynne Kohan Correspondence Secretary – Kathy Shambach 3) President’s Report: Helene Everhart a) The resignation of Vice President, Virginia Deaton, was announced. Thank you to Virginia for her service and the PTSO wishes her well. b) Thank you to Papa John’s who donated their profits from the Selinsgrove Street Fair. A check was presented to the PTSO for $487.15. We are grateful for their continued support! c) Mrs. Miller – Kindergarten teacher at SE has written a book, “The Monster in the Washer”. She has offered to do a reading and book signing on family night at the book fair. Her book will be available to purchase for $22.00 and she will be donating $2.00 from the sale of each book to the PTSO! 4) Vice President’s Report: Steve Varias a) A bench for the courtyard project was sold. Look for more information on the Courtyard pavers to come in the spring. b) Wendy’s Family Night will be held on October 30th. Information to come home soon. c) Red Robin Family Night did well. Facebook can be a great way to help promote our dinner promo nights. As well as teacher communication with students. d) Kids Meal Certificates will be given to teachers to utilize from the following restaurants – Perkins, Bob Evans, Garfield’s, Applebee’s, Red Robin, and KFC. 5) Recording Secretary’s Report: Lynne Kohan a) Room parents have been selected by the teachers and notified. Thank you to all who volunteered. b) The PTSO will be selling coupon books for Bon-Ton’s Community Days. The books are $5.00 and can be purchased at the PTSO booth at KidsGrove Fall Fest, online, or by contacting the PTSO officers. All proceeds from the sale of the booklets stay with the PTSO! 6) Correspondence Secretary’s Report: Kathy Shambach a) Thank you cards were received from Mrs. Pyers, Mrs. Reiland, and Mrs. Degand. All were very grateful for the gifts from the PTSO. 7) Treasurer’s Report: Lacey Dupert: a) Checking Account Balance $41,435.74 b) Updated budget will be available to look at all PTSO meetings. c) Deposits $5,540.00 Seals Gear & $24.27 2nd Skating Party Donation 8) Committee Updates: a) School Mall: Anne Parise – We are 65 booklets short of our goal. The turn in date will be extended until Monday b) Fall Book Fair: Kelly Young – Will be held 10/29-11/1 with family night being held on 10/30 from 4-7pm. Reminder and book fair schedule will be going home with students next week. Each SE will receive a free book from the PTSO. c) T-shirt Contest: Kelly Young – Contest details will be sent home in January. Each student will receive a free t-shirt. A proposal was made to look into purchasing tie dye t-shirts for students. A motion was made to table until we have more pricing details. d) Label for Education: Sue Sheesley – Music and Art Teachers will be selecting items from catalogs. Continue to send in your labels! e) Yearbook: Lacey Dupert – A cover was selected by those present at the meeting. Picture retake will be held on November 6th. f) Fall Fest: Kathy Shambach – Will be held at KidsGrove 10/20. PTSO will be selling Seals Gear and Bon-Ton Community Days Coupons. There will be free cookies donated by the PTSO cookie bakers and a pick a pop game. g) Wolfgang Candy – Proposed Sale dates 1/7-2/4 with delivery in March. 9) Principal’s Report: Mr. Terry Heintzelman a) PTSO will be serving as the Title One parent group for the Keystones to Opportunity Grant. Permission was granted to access $525.00 from the grant to purchase food and materials for the upcoming Math Night to be held on 10/25. More information to come. b) Kindergarten students had a music assembly with Mary Knysh from the Related arts council c) 1st Grade fire prevention assembly cancelled due to fire call for the fire fighters d) 2nd Grade visited the fire station and was able to experience a simulated smoke filled room and learned about tools fire fighters use. e) Special thank you to Pete Giepel who assisted parents in setting up Powerschool accounts at last month’s Success in School program. f) 10/31 Costume dress up will held with outdoor parade (weather permitting). 10) Important Dates: a) 10/20 Fall Fest at KidsGrove b) 10/21-26th Red Ribbon Week c) 10/27 Downtown Trick or Treat, Scarecrow and Costume Contest d) 10/29 Begin Book Fair 10/30 Family Night e) 10/30 Wendy’s Dinner Promo 10% to SE PTSO f) 10/31 Costume Dress Up Parade at SE g) 11/1 PTSO Meeting SE Cafeteria 7:30 11) Adjourn Minutes Compiled By: Lynne Kohan, Recording Secretary
